Not in 1944.

Good point - I did forget that it was 1944. However, they were still being used. Atleast kv2 since it was good for assault.

Sheer numbers outweigh any quality, Tiger was very expensive to develop and very expensive to maintain, this made it a bad choice for a World War where you needed efficient mass production, 1 slow Tiger vs 10 faster T-34 that can surround it and what can it do, it can't even escape, of course these two tanks are in different categories, Tiger was a heavy tank and T-34 was medium.

Tiger was effective only as a blitzkrieg before the Allies knew what it was, they thought it was some sort of indestructible beast made of steel and it caused panic and morale dropped when soldiers learned a Tiger was in the area.

True - but the tiger had twice the range of a t-34. But in the end it was all about numbers yeah...there are speculations about IF the germans had concentrated on Panzer IV rather than later versions - they could have won the war. Sure there are better tanks, but Panzer IV was easy to maintain and they could produce them in great numbers really fast.

Best tank during ww2 imo is Panther.

don't forget m8 that T-34 was a modern ingenuity in its own right as well. it was the first tank with a sloped armor which could deflect bomb shells when hit at the front of the tank. when T-34 first surfesed up on the battlefield, Germans could not understand why a direct hit on the tank will make the missile bounce off the tank. Now every tank in the world has a sloped armor.

Someone who knows their armor.Very Happy The Panther has long been regarded by historians as one of the top best tanks of WW2 and I am in total agreement. This was of course after the bugs in the A model were rectified. The Jagdpather is right up there with it.

Been studying armor and WW2 as a hobby long before everyone became an armchair expert by reading everything online. Laughing

A preview on SimHQ:

Quote:
Conclusion

While technically an expansion of the Arma 2 world, Iron Front is much more than just a mod. From what we’ve seen in the Beta, you're getting a full battlefield, and potentially a great game. It covers air and land battles in single player campaigns and missions, along with multiplayer that can be played in co-op, or force-on-force, but the campaigns are unfortunately not "co-op". Planes dogfight overhead, planes bomb targets, and AA guns light up the sky. There are armor battles, vehicle transports maneuvering around, and of course, plenty of infantry combat. The huge amount of content and detail is very impressive. You also get the typical Arma 2 style mission editor, so expect plenty of user made content. If you like open area, open mission, WWII combat in a tactical, more realistic environment then you should not be disappointed in Iron Front: Liberation 1944. If Deep Silver and X1 Software get the bugs we found resolved, they have an unabashed winner.

This is what RO2 should have been. Fuck it! Fuck TWI! They can shove their Content-Update up their arses. I'm getting this next week. Just thinking about RO2 almost gives me a brain aneurysm. Still can't believe that I actually defended this pos because I hoped for something impossible. To be a true successor to RO1 they would have to start from scratch.

I am familiar with the ArmA series, I have always found them great to play yet very messy and hard to control ui wise.

I loved the Mp on arma 2, the 2 ai armys clashing with a few mates in each army. but have no friends who are going to get this game so it will mostly be the sp im interested in. is it all set missions and scenarios or is there a sandboxy option too?

edit: or some sort of dynamic campaign, something to give some replay value aside from the mp

Rather have WW2 than modern tbh.

Different tank classes, half-tracks, heavy machineguns, bolt-action rifles? Count me in.

I'm like you...WW2 over modern (big gun) wars but how about WW1. Gut wrenching trench warfare in a gas mask

I haven't had time yet to try it. We have an editor but no armory.
But the preview from SimHQ said about the campaign:

Quote:
The game includes two singleplayer-only campaigns. There are 10 missions in each side (German and Russian) showcasing the very end of WWII on the Eastern Front. Each campaign is very well done with proper background information and cut scenes. You start out small and move up in rank as you unlock the next mission in the series. Starting as a private and simply take orders and fight, while the AI tells you where to go and what to do. Eventually you'll be put in charge of a small team or squad, and then eventually support missions, armor missions, and air missions. Giving you a taste of everything the game offers. Each mission takes approximately an hour, and can be replayed many times due to the open battlefields in the game.

Some examples of missions Magnum encountered while playing through the campaigns:

His small team was directed to drive to a windmill overlooking a valley, in that valley we had our defenses set. They had to first clear the area of enemy scouts, and then use the location to locate the enemies mortar platoon, and then call counter artillery on them.

In another mission, his tank platoon provided support in a large scale assault on a defensive position.

Another had his team move into a contested area, then set up a defensive position with AT guns and machine gun pits, while they waited then received the counter attack.

His infantry squad was directed to move up with an armor force through heavy enemy fire to support yet another attack.
