I mean that huge game sizes aren't anything new. I vaguely recall the same discussion with GTA IV.

I seem to be the only one not eagerly anticipating this title. Quite frankly, I don't think Rockstar has what it takes to get the feel right. From watching the video reviews, the cut-scenes seem more in line with GTA than Max Payne. What happened to the comic style story strips? Where's that noire feel? Why the fuck is it set in Brazil and Max a baldy?

It might be good for a play through, but Max Payne this is, most likely, not. And the multiplayer - third person shooter....multiplayer....meh. No skin off my back if this doesn't get released immediately.

I can download it in a few hours, I'm just curious... no, dumbfounded as to how anyone can seriously wonder why 30GB might be an issue for some

If I had to download a 30GB game with 500KB/s, I'd go for the retail version. So should games be limited to 5GB because "it takes too long to download"?

What do you mean? Should developers keep the pirates in mind when designing a game? I don't understand the point you're trying to make.

I do not understand why a game's size should be limited because "it takes too long to download". Easily circumvented by buying it retail and getting a bigger HDD. With that frame of mind, devs shouldn't bother with HR textures and space/power demanding techniques. What about the people with Celeron CPUs and integrated GPUs?
I still don't get your point, but let's agree to disagree.

As for my "pirates are irrelevant thing", as a pirate you take what you get.

Who said it should? Scratch Head

Now I'm confused. You brought up the size of it argumenting that some people have slow download speeds and/or small HDDs, implying the size is unreasonable. Maybe I misunderstood.

So no one bought a cheap key here? If you did, keep us updated.

It's not that the size is unreasonable, it's just that even people who bought the legit version on Steam might have a problem with the size because either their HDD is too small or their internet connection is too slow.

You say- buy a retail box. But what if I want a Steam version? I used Steam even back when I had a 1mbit connection, and I was doing fine. Now imagine downloading 30 gigs on 1mbit connection.

Isn't that your problem though? Wouldn't keeping the game size down just for that, be as bad as doing shitty ports because the consoles can't handle it? Developers are already between a rock and a hard place because they have to keep in mind teh lowest common denominator, I hope download speed and HDD size won't be one of them.

We're not saying that the gamesize should be smaller, we're saying why people MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM with it, because that was your original question.

Why is it irrelevant?

Imagine if it was a Steamworks game, sure, you can still install it partially using the DVD, but you STILL have to download additional data. What then? Don't buy the game? Even if you were waiting for it for 9 years?

Believe it or not, there are still countries where ISPs actually CAP the connection. Imagine if you had a monthly quota of 25 gigabytes, and after that, the speed drops to 56k modem speed. Have fun downloading it.

And no, sometimes "get a better ISP" simply isn't an option, because ALL of them cap speeds.
