That's why a retail option is offered. So what about Witcher 2 then? That's also too big then right?

I have a good connection, but I still downloaded Witcher 2 with 350KB/s for a day. Why did I not mind? I hoped it would be worth it and it was. Did I wish for a 1GB game I could play instantly? Yes, but it wouldn't be as great as Witcher 2.

As for the download time I'll just let the laptop turned on at night, problem solved.

Imagine if it was a Steamworks game, sure, you can still install it partially using the DVD, but you STILL have to download additional data. What then? Don't buy the game? Even if you were waiting for it for 9 years?
Believe it or not, there are still countries where ISPs actually CAP the connection. Imagine if you had a monthly quota of 25 gigabytes, and after that, the speed drops to 56k modem speed. Have fun downloading it.
And no, sometimes "get a better ISP" simply isn't an option, because ALL of them cap speeds. |
@garus
Remember that these are RETAIL CD-keys, they do not activate on Steam.

No Steam though. I guess I'll buy it if a crack takes too long, I'll get a clone.
@Neon: which Steamworks game needed gigs of additional data and what has that additional data to do with the overall gamesize?

I remember at least two patches that turned out being 9GB patches due to some fuck up from steam or CDProjekt

In my case these ever bigger games are one of the best anti-piracy measures in years, I get 300KB/s on a good day but wouldn't even consider downloading a game this size, pirated or legit
With MP3 it's fairly clear that the size is mostly going to shitty bik video files, if Rockstar had done the game properly (pc version anyway) we wouldn't need these videos as our pcs don't need to hide game loading behind them
There's always repack version for those who aren't happy with huge downloads

It's GameShield IronWrap, as stated on the official site. Pretty hardcore.

THETA cracked LA Noire (which supposedly was protected by GS IronWrap too) on the release day, followed by SKIDROW release 8 days later. So, there's a chance of soonish release. If not on release day, it won't take too long probably.

I hope this doesn't become the standard with games...seems like a long time to wait. $59.99 and if it sucks or you don't like it you are screwed out of download caps from your IP. That's if you download it anyway. Gameshield,Ironwrap...isn't that a condom name?
