Crysis vanilla isn't that impressive. It uses many tricks to give the impression of graphical prowess.

So? Tricks or not, they were effective. The original Crysis from 2007 looks much more impressive than 99% other games visually. On top of my head, only Witcher 2 and BF3 can be said to be more impressive visually. 
This is not a comment on art style, but visual superiority only. |

I disagree. Crysis looks pretty, MP3 on the other hand is more detailed. Small details like in Witcher 2 impress me much more than the shiny gfx of Crysis.

What was shiny about C1 graphics? Little amount of bloom, light shafts were done to good extent, water was done superbly (especially with FFT calcs). |

But again, what you are referring to is art style and direction. And I agree that Crysis is not imaginative at all. I think the art style of games such as Mass Effect 1, Witcher, Skyrim, etc are much more interesting. But from a technical standpoint, it is really that good. |
