Far from that great im afraid... the game is very poor. Bad gfx, bad gameplay, VERY repetitive. Its even lacking in humor.
3/10
so many bad console games lately, either we are near another Video game Crash,or that natural cause we are pretty much at end of the current Gen lifecycle
Shame... After excellent Shadows of the Damned I've expected at least a fun simple game.
Fuck it. i will replay Shadows of the Damned

You're over reacting.
Dark Souls, Binary Domain, Asuras Wrath, I Am Alive, American Nightmare, Journey, Yakuza Dead Souls, FEZ, Trials 2, Dragons Dogma... to name most of the interesting highlights released in the recent months.
Oh and the near end of the current gen is not indicative to the quality of the games; just remember last gen's life cycle end (GoW2, SotC, Okami where some of the best games the last gen had).
and most of them released few months a go/before the current year started...
lately, most games that came out are average/disappointed,I really hope for a good period of releases, but there were lots of delays to 2013,and that year is probably the last for the current consoles
how to put it its a Japan action game from someone that seen to many B-horror movies , stylized as a 90' comic book from songs to visual esthetics's...
if only the chain saw thingi handled like a real chain saw not like a stick...you smack them 5-10 times to kill some thing ... thats the main bad thing in it your main weapon handles like a WOODEN STICK that does jack shit and that sparkling crap that comes after you kill a zombie eeewwww what is it a game for GIRLS with ADD ???!!!
sound 10
story 5 to 9 its so twisted you only play this for it
visuals 7
map design 2
gameplay 0
Game length Piss poor [in 1h30min i was in mission 4 out of 7]
Played this today for 2 hrs and like it. Though the game doesn't match Asuras level of craziness, game's pretty fucking nuts!
The controls are by far the biggest disapontment for me so far. I was expecting somting more.. agile, like the sort of smoothness TFU2 had, but so far they're pretty "stiff". :/
The levels are a bit bland as well, but this is nothing new in japanese games, so I wouldn't hold it against it.
Never the less I really enjoy the game's tongue and check moments and some stupid over the top QTEs coupled with a great OST!
OK! What is up with the retarded save system? I had completed around 75% of the second chapter and decided to quit, as I have to leave for work. It's right around the cut-scene where Juliet meets her Sensei. When I re-launched the game, it started right from the beginning of the 2nd chapter. What the fucking fuck?

Welcome to console gaming. Home of the checkpoint save. Enjoy your stay
you know what they say about JAPAN and school girls...its a game by pedo for pedos if its got soft porn in it its automatic 10/10
Come on that's completely absurd. The point was 1 or 2 here was saying it was horrible and it was influencing everyone to stay away from it as if their opinions were God, just showing that not everybody thinks its that bad or bad at all. So everyone should judge for themselves. I wouldn't be surprised to see more positive U.S. reviews this week, I guess they're pedos too.
Famitsu does not concur with the majority of the audience here.

+1
Nothing new about the "herd effect" influencing opinions about these type of games; NIER, Risen, Knight's Contract, Deadly Premonition and the more recent Dragon's Dogma comes to mind.
played it for a bit now, looks/feels like no more heroes with better gfx and a shittier combat system so far...oh and of course that special suda51 brand of obnoxiousness

seriously? all the underrated games you listed are awesome, but this one is just plain miserable imo. care to elaborate what's good about it? not for debating purposes, but because i need new games to play, or rather, a damn good reason do get that one again

Sure.
Well let's see, the stronger points imo would be:
- the story is decent, though I can see why for some it might take a while until it lights an interest.
- the dark medieval setting - reminiscent of Demons Souls/Berserk - is what did I for me, I loved the level designs almost every area (with a few exceptions here and there) and it's the second best thing about that game in my book.
- the combat is by far the most interesting and refreshing aspect of this game, though (depending on the player) it takes a while to sink in; for instance only by the first third of the game I've learned and started using it efficiently, in a statisfying way.
Basically your main character has normal weapon attacks and your "sidekick", a witch, has magical attacks - each conceived in such a way that they're meant to be used in combination with your melee attacks - but you control both.
Now you can play it like any other hack'n'slash action game out there and off enemies with basic attacks, but for the most part the key is that for each type of enemy you have an efficient combination of certain melee and certain magic attacks, otherwise you're going to have a though time with simple enemies and a nightmare with stronger ones/bosses. So there's a "plan your attack" requirement, similar to games like Dark Souls, witch I really enjoy.
But long story short, you need to play it yourself to get a good feel for the combat, witch even though it feels kinda clunky (it is a low budget Japanese game, after all) feels really good when executed right.
Other than that, in terms of presentation, dialog, VO and so on, it's very subjective - love or hate kinda of thing- so I'm not sure what else I can say to sell you on this game. It, like some of the other games I listed before, is one of those low budget gems that have a nice feel to them without the AAA bullshit going on, and you either like or you don't.
Best I can say is, if all the above sounds appealing to you, try it out for yourself, give it a chance and you'll see weather you'll like it or not.
Now, imo, the worst thing about this game are it's QTEs during boss fights - I remember raging like a mad man during a certain fire themed boss fight.
