Civ 4 with mods is still better. Wink

You should still give it a try, but I at least played a few games then went right back into Civ 4.

The diplomacy still blows in the expansion, so god damn disappointing. When I didn't like vanilla civ5, I was naive to expect I would like gods and kings. My bad. The game got marginally better, but not enough for me.

Diplomacy sucked ass in Civ 4 too. That might be my major problem with this series. Up untill you get surrouinded by other civs it's all awesome, but when you reach that moment the AI gets completely bonkers and starts declaring war and peace for no apparent reason.

Was there ever a game that had the depth of Diplomacy of Alpha Centauri?

Mods helped with the diplomacy to a degree (some even have done larger behavioral changes, tho mostly they seem to turn the AI into an even more backstabbing dickwad Very Happy), but is has been one of the main issues throughout the series. I dislike the higher difficulty levels because of this - rather than the AI playing better, it just gets cheat bonuses.

I tried a smaller map (dual map), (every 1 out of 2 tries) it run but game crash during play.

my computer is:
Intel Core I7 2.93ghz
ATI HD 5700 series (Drivers up to date)
running window XP with directx 9.0c

I can run many new games but not this.. anyone know any reason why?

Is it possible to load the legendary earth mod on a pirated version without crashing? I keep crashing whenever I access the mod panel of the game.

Hi,

There's something I don't understand : I'm at the renaissance age and own catapults and trebuchets. The problem is their shooting range won't exceed 2 blocks : therefore, I can't attack cities because they bombard my siege equipment and it gets destroyed.
Is there a technology / something to research so that my siege weapons can aim at targets 3 blocks away ?

It definitely is possible to attack cities with those, you just need melee units and more siege equipment. Retreat the catapults when they're almost dead, keep using the rest.

Oops, added some extra text to the link by mistake Sad

Playing the Gods and Kings addon and it's a lot better for me
Loads of basic tweaks, building, bonus and other changes make the game feel more balanced
Religion seems pointless, it affects my diplomacy but doesn't seem to do too much else, fun to convert other Civ's cities though
Spying doesn't do much for me, the AI seems to make use of it though

Perfomance is much improved since the original Civ V release, playing Huge map on Marathon setting, about 800 turns in and the game is holding up well, maybe a 5-10 second wait on occasion but it's way better than the couple of minutes it used to be
Saves seem to load faster too and more importantly the game doesn't crash when loading a near end game save
