I'm having a blast with this game, easily one of the best RPG's that I've ever played BUT...

I just started chapter III, I'm at the trade district and then... the game just drops to 15 fps from time to time.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! Laughing Crying or Very sad Sad

I don't think there's anything wrong with my system, every other game runs just fine.
Why such shit performance FFS, how is it possible to release a game that runs THIS bad and does this happen with the sequel too?

are you playing enhanced (patched) edition?

Doesn't matter if he plays EE. The performance in that specific area is pure crap, no matter the game version.

That specific area, and performance in general, has been greatly improved in the EE though. All the fires brought my PC to its knees, but EE was very playable.

Right... I guess my 3.3GHz Q8300 isn't enough?

Do kindly load one of your saves on the 3rd chapter and then report back the "amazing" performance.

I overlooked something on my poor performance rant, but I think it won't make that much of a difference and I certainly wont be arsed to find out: I'm using this:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-witcher-texturen-mod

Dunno if it makes much of a difference in performance on the worst spots though.

Aaaaaaand done!

78 hours and 15.8GB (save files Shocked ) later I've finally finished this.
IMO the 4th and 5th chapters were kinda weak, but it picked up on the epilogue.
Thought it was a bit too easy though, finished it on level 41 using Igni to breeze through most fights, playing on normal mode.

Moonlight mutagen (+100% sign intensity) + Petri's Philter (+50% sign intensity), Ritual of Power (+100% sign intensity) and Igni + 50% sign intensity stacked up, as well as a Tawny Owl and with the rubedo and nigredo effects active so... Razz

A definitive classic, now to check the EE modules before following to TW2. Mass Effect 3, lolwut? Reaction

this is one of those games that was so awesome, I couldn't stop playing until my third playthrough. Then never play it again, yet it is still installed.
edit, I thought it was witcher 2

In addition to those:

This: http://www.moddb.com/mods/witcherblackedition (there are some additions that this one brings and I don't like, but they can be removed)

Or this as an alternative: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-witcher-inferno-edition

Also this one: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-witcher-dark-geralt-mod (it contains just the Geralt related textures from the black edition mod, minus the face texture I think, which I never liked in the black edition mod)

I found to be the best here the combination of the inferno edition and dark geralt mods.

And there's of course this mod, which I never liked: http://www.moddb.com/mods/scabbard-mod

yeah but then they would have been bought by EA or Activision, then all of a sudden 10 years later you'd get a sequel that's basically a derp hack and slash game with a PG13 story, i am glad it didn't get made back then.

Wow, that looks super-ambitious, probably ran into technical problems or the budget requirements to fullfil the world were too high and all publishers were pussies.

P.S.: Don't tell me they were targeting N64, too ? Laughing

So much fail more like. 1997 Witcher should have been topdown/isometric tactical RPG with 2D backgrounds. Glad this was canceled.
