TO THE BAT MOBI... erm.. JDOWNLOADER! |
Mixed and mostly bad reviews from many sites managed to convince many rpg gamers that this isn't a good game.
This is one true rpg videogame with a superb story that unveils with your choices.Hopefully this forum and this thread has experienced gamers who stay away from biased reviews and dig deep into games.

we live in a post Derp Effect era. anything that isn't Derp Effect will get mediocre to bad reviews, because apparently those games were perfect and a pinnacle of RPG genre.

God damn if this aint the best story in a game since planescape torment, i honestly had to sit back and think for a while if it beat torment out for the no.1 place but ah, i couldnt do it.
its suffers more in terms of gameplay and interface but nothing that even remotely lessened the experience for me.
highly recommended and credit to the team, would love to see what they could do with a bigger budget.

Combat is boring
Interface is lacking
But must be one of the best stories in a game I´ve played in a long time. Give it a chance, it gets better and better as the game develops, but it takes a while to get going (first 2-3 chapters are the prologues)

Hopefully I will finish the game tonight. Last night I came to believe it was already ending and then BAM the amazing story kicks you in the face and lets you know you're not quite there. It's as violent and enthralling as the tv show. Seriously, best story in a video game I've seen in years.

That seems to be the general consensus. Just imagine what a masterpiece this game would have been if Cyanide would be better at execution...

I know what you mean. However given the history of video games based on movies, tv shows and the like, this could have turned to be much much worse.

I didnt give this game a thought considering its a tie-in to a newly popular HBO show/books... but sounds like it deserves a play through.

So what do you guys recommend? Specializing in only one weapon or picking 2, say a mace to deal with armored foes and my 2h sword for lightly armored? Or will this just hobble me down the road.

I specialized in only one weapon for each character. In my case, swords for Alester and two-handed swords for Mors. Chapter 13 so far and I haven't had any problems with that choice unless you consider easy fights most of the time to be a problem (I maxed out both weapons like 3 chapters ago).
In the case of Alester you can even choose the type of sword, cutting ones or perforating ones. If anything you could try to specialize in two types of weapons with Mors, two-handed swords and maces/hammers as the latter are better for heavy armored foes.

I just finished this. First thing first, this was the most amazing story in a video game I played since I assembled a good PC for 3D gaming back in 2006 after some 7 years without a worthy rig.
Ok now that I got that out, gameplay wasn't that good, I mean compared to top notch RPG today you could say it felt... incomplete. They could've had done a much better job and this could have turned to be the best video game based in a movie or tv show ever. But sadly I highly doubt that's the case. I don't consider it a bad game anyways, it managed to kept me entertained for the most part of it.
Gracphics were far from top of the class but I say they're modern enough. Like some one said, not the best implementation with UE3. However, I didn't find myself being bothered by ugly textures like in other recent games made with other new engines (I won't mention so I don't rage ).
My final verdict for this one is: 8/10.
The fantasticamazing story puts it up there for me as I rate game experiences more than the quality of the products as such.
Btw,
Spoiler: |
I chose to go with Mors, so I killed Alester in the end. What a badass character Mors is, I chose to give the baby to Lord Varys and return to Castle Black and resume my duties chopping heads of desertors there

I found the game quite good looking with the FXAA injector actually (and some tweaks, though I don't remember if I applied them again after the patch). The bad implementation of UE3 is not really in the graphics. Also, I chose the same ending and I agree about Mors. He's one of my favorite characters ever already. Also, that scene in he's ending really makes you want more!

Glad that you like it guys! . I use it too in the ~80% of the SP games that I have installed at the moment. I like the sharper look a lot, although some games require the slider to be adjusted a bit since the effect might be too pronounced.

Does anyone know if you can just apply the latest patch and be done with it? Or does it require the previous patches?

The patch doesn't warn you if try to install in on top of version 1.0, but on their technical support forum, they say v1.1 should go before v1.3.
http://forum.gameofthrones-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=489
Fourth post from the top.
So better safe than sorry, install 1.1 before 1.3.
Also, it's a surprisingly nice game. After that organized bashfest on Metacritic I expected the worst game ever, but it turns out I only hate the interface (the inventory and menus), everything else is at least decent. Combat is KotOR-esque, I absolutely have no problem with that, and no one who plays RPGs shouldn't have. Also the graphics, it's way better than in that late 2011 trailer, even on medium, maybe it's fixed in patches but the game is nowhere near ugly as reviewers on the internet say. Maybe it was really hideous in 1.0, but in 1.3 definitely is not.
