I think the problem is, in past sales, I've gotten most of the stuff I wanted, and recently there hasn't been a whole heck of a lot that I've really wanted to get. So when these sales come around, either the few things I do want aren't heavily discounted (they might be new, maybe at xmas they'll be really cheap) and the rest of it I'm not that interested in.
Absolutely the same for me.

I'm still buying Morrowind one way or the other, but I'm starting to doubt if it will ever have more than a 40% discount Sad

Hey, suit yourself, I'm buying what I always wanted (but was to cheap to pay full price). Mostly oldies.

Also: was about to buy Just Cause 2, won it on steamgifts. Nice Smile

Nope. That would be backward reasoning. The correct order is: I want game X, I wait for game X to be 75% off (or 50% or 66%), then I buy it. That's what wishlists are for Razz

Yeah, I get that. Maybe it's just me - but I tend to buy what I want to play when I want to play it - and I've never had the time to play many games at once, even when I was unemployed. Oh, I could load up a game and dabble - and then load up another, simply because I was exposed to a LOT of games. Like a kid that gets 10 presents for christmas might have been happier with just a couple of great ones.

I'm not wealthy, really - but I have to say that my economic situation has never been what prevented me from playing a game I wanted to play. I've been quite "unwealthy" in the past.

But ok, I also pirate when I can't wait until payday.

That said, you guys have to admit that you're buying a lot of shit that you'll likely never get to play - or that you could easily have done without.

To each his own.

Is sword of the stars really that bad? 44/100 on metacritic

The metacritic score is based on the game's initial release, which was a complete and utter mess. Meanwhile, it has received over a dozen patches, and apparently it's quite enjoyable now.

Except for some indies I got as part of bundles and didn't want, I finished all games present in my steam account at least once.
But yeah, I could've done without them.

Impressive, especially if you finished them because you really enjoyed them - and not because you felt you had to justify the purchase Wink

Well, I admit nothing of that Razz

And that stuff about "finishing games to justify the purchase" is the total opposite of my philosophy. The purchase is justified before making it, because:

1. I want to play the game (pre-condition).
and
2. It's selling at a great price.

As simple as that.

In that case, it makes good sense. We just differ in how we're not both willing to wait for a sale to play what we really want to play. That said, I'm impatient - and I value my time a lot more than my money, which is probably why I spend it sort of carelessly at times.

Only thing that i bought was Alan Wake: American Nightmare for under 4 euros, and I'm sure I'll play it. And I'm sorry that I missed Kotor. That game is worth having it in collection.

i only buy games with a decent and an active multiplayer mode (Top games by current player count from Steam stats) and which have lots of updates on steam, there is no point to buy games with only one solo mode and 1-2 updates. It's the same case for indie games, it's only to help them if it has just one solo mode.

About games with more than 2dlc i don't buy them there is not point (like S3)

I'm wondering this too. I remember playing Sands of Time awhile back, and it being quite enjoyable, but I never got past the first half an hour for some reason. And the newest one looks fun, but I seem to remember people saying it was a bit short? Or something?

The only DLC worth getting is Old World Blues. The others are crap. I found OWB to be more enjoyable than the base game (but I'm not a fan of the Oblivion with guns style of FO3/NV).

I bought the "franchise pack" for $24, as I couldn't be assed screwing around looking for cracks for the latest patch/DLC. It includes all the DLC except the new Genki Girl pack (which is just a couple of wacky vehicles). If I had my time over, I would have saved myself 10 bucks and just got the base game. You don't need any of the weapon/vehicle/costume DLC, and the 3 story/mission DLCs (i.e. actual content) are pretty so-so. The Trouble with Clones is the best of the 3, so I'd say that might be worth a separate purchase (it's like $1.75 or something by itself). Gangstas in Space is passable, but Genkibowl VII was lame. The thing that disappointed me the most though is how short the main game is. Only get it if you have a heavy interest in all the random activities/diversions (mostly involving blowing shit up), as that is probably 75% of the game.
