Can anyone who has played a good while comment about opponent AI? Does diplomacy still consist of peace-war-peace-war sequences with the same civ?

Played two games on huge small continents with low sea level maps. King level, achieved space victory and culture victory. Maya soundtrack is amazing Smile

Early rushes from close neighbors AI is almost guaranteed. With distant civs it's posible to maintain peace for many years if you don't spy on each other, and you use denounce tool with surgical precision.

Civilization V Hotfix Today - fixes savegame incompatibility

Hey everyone,

Later this afternoon, we'll be releasing a small patch to Civilization V to address several issues that have been reported since the big patch.

Code:
   [PREVIOUS SAVES]

Older saves with DLC leaders (including Genghis) will no longer "shift" when loaded into the patched game.

    [CRASH FIXES]

If a user does not have a religion, and receives a religion from another Civ, setting the "automated faith purchase" option could previously cause a crash when the purchase tries to fire for either the player, or the AI.
Fixed an issue where a user could click on a city banner during the AI turn, and the game could crash depending what AI process is happening at the time of the "click".
        Into the Renaissance
If an AI player has open borders and a friendly relationship with another Civ, they would sometimes send a Great Admiral to park in their city. If the city tries to purchase a civilian unit while the Great Admiral is parked there, the game could crash. This is corrected.
        Scenario hang
There was a chance that when you won a scenario, the game could hang. This has been corrected
Fixed an issue where any user with special characters in their Windows name will be unable to load saves.
If a player has Steam in "offline mode", and clicks on Mods, into the modding area and then backs out, the game could crash. This is now corrected.
        Game Hang on turn 0
After patching, many have reported being unable to interact with units or end the first turn. This is now corrected.
Game could previously hang on "Unit Needs Orders" after the player clicks next turn. This has been corrected, and the camera snap has been fixed.
A crash that could occur in Hot Seat if the game core threading had been disabled is fixed.

    [BUG FIXES]

        Fall of Rome Scenario
Golden Ages were switched to providing bonus culture earlier in project. We've removed the culture bonus from Golden Ages for the scenario.
Open Borders that do not exist
If the AI is trying to renew an open borders agreement, but has something more important to talk about in the queue, the system would still record the Open Borders agreement as being active (even though it is not actually in place). This has been corrected.
Military Caste (+2 culture from garrison) was not working correctly. Whenever a civilian unit embarks, bulbs, or is deleted, it subtracted 2 culture, and kept adding up each time this happened, leaving the city at permanent negative culture. This has been corrected.
The "Peace Loving" belief was not functioning. This has been corrected.
When cities bombard attacking units, death animations would now play correctly.

with some luck and propper use of denounce i think its possible to play a whole game without having to go to war.
I played a pangea map on king, and was only in war 4 times, 2 of which i started, the 3rd i just followed a close friend, and the last i was dec'ed by an agressive neighbour.
I did use spies against other people.
Main thing is to have a strong military, and they wont dare attack you.
Won a cultural victory in that game.

Getting attacked depends largely on what level you are playing and which opponents you live close by. I switch between play-styles - but if I have enough money I can easily bribe nearly all other nations to war eachother. Scout your surroundings and if you see an army marching against you, just see what they want to attack your nabour instead.

In peacefull games I always just have the weakest army and its no problem (I normally play on emperor (peacefull) or immortal (aggressive). Its gotten alot easier to deal with happiness, so now an aggressive game can be ok fun - where I found in earlier versions, that the spoils of war, just spoiled your empire. It still sucks that all future diplomacy is out the window, when playing the conqueror tho.

There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

The problem is not really aggressive AI, it's indecisive AI. The last time I played (prioir to the expansion and some patches), I was constantly micro-managing my army because the AI kept doing "war-peace-peace-peace". It completely ruined the endgame for me.

This game series has never been much for online play unless you have a friend you are playing with/against. Just takes to long to make playing with random people be worth it.

I got this stupid bug that I can't seem to find a fix for. Game launches fine, I can start a new game and play forever without any problems. If I press the Load Game button, game automatically crashes. In order to bypass this, I have to put steam into offline mode. Goddamnitsomuch.

My specs:
Ryzen 5950x @ boosting 5ghz, Gigabyte x570 Aorus Master, 32gb G.Skill Trident Neo pc3600 ram, nVidia RTX 5080, SoundBlasterX G6, Samsung 980 Pro m.2 1TB and Hynix m.2 1TB storage SSD. Custom watercooling loop.

Derpsole: Nintendo Switch, Derpstation 5 Pro

Not really. All I do is change a few entries in the .xml files to make the game last MUCH longer in Marathon mode.

But I restored those files to default and it still does it. I hear it's steam related, but I can't seem to pin point the issue. When I put steam in offline mode, it works fine.

Hmm... there does seem to be 3dmgame version of 1.0.1.705 patch...

EDIT:
Note that 3dmgame update does not contain updates to all pre-expansion DLCs!!!

So I would suggest getting full patch (with updated dlcs) from other source and then apply 3dgame crack.

I know it's old but I had this problem a while back and no googling helped, turns out that the update installs to a different folder from the game itself, I didn't check the install path Embarassed

Bought Civ 5 during the Steam sale so I'm back to pre-Gods and Kings, it sucks a bit, but I still manage to spend ridiculous amounts of time clicking the "next turn" button
I need to ban myself from this game just so I can play something else, until the expansion comes down to a reasonable price, obviously

I bought a steam key for $10 two days ago. I don't know if that would've been a good enough price for you though.

Yep, some files in dlc folders are updated with the patch. Not many, just few for each dlc.
