Ah thanks, mystery solved. If I remember correctly there was no way to disable, just option to select that or SSAO. Yep had to check and HDAO set on the game.

I am thinking about replaying MP1 on windows 7 32bit.

I have steam version btw. The game works well. No stuttering, graphical glitches etc. just that NO SOUND problem. So I checked out that 1.12 fix from steam forums and it works perfectly. At least it seems that way.

Is the game completely fixed that way? Are there any other problems? I don't want to sink 10hours into this, just to discover that the game crashes or sound cuts off on last levels Razz

Yep, game is really good and fun (only played it for the first time just before MP3 release). I liked MP2 more than MP1 though.

I also like MP2 more than mp1 and mp3 but MP1 is still something special. Just in the same category as Unreal, Half-life etc. those games.

hang on, ive just realised something. youve NEVER finished mp2? you never saw max get closure? never bared witness to one of the emotional final moments - indeed, the most powerful ending lines ever seen in a game... you never saw, quite possibly, the greatest video game ending EVER? or heard the greatest ending credits song ever put on a game?

thats... actually really sad.

while i loved the story of mp1 more, the ending of mp2 touched me in such an epic and powerful way that few other games ever have. you must finish that game Sad

I actually only finished myself MP2 and not the first one and I do like it more than the first one. People keep saying the first one is still the best, but as far as I've seen, they improved on everything with MP2, which makes it a better game, at least for me.

I liked them both obviously, but if I really had to choose, I'd say that Max Payne 1 is my favorite Max.
The sequel had more refined gameplay, but the first one just felt more special and surprising, if you know what I mean Very Happy

the first one i just liked the story more. the whole a man alone, out for vengeance thing.. the killed family and uncovering the 'why'.

and while the second game really did improve on many things, i just found the story to be - while excellently delivered... not quite as gripping. thats the ONLY thing i can say i loved more about the first game. but the second played much better.. its exactly what you want to see in a game - refinement, without fucking up the things that made it great.

dont you remember the screnshot thread? i completed max 1 and 2 steam versions before 3 came out. both games worked flawlesly.

I alos prefer the max 1 setting and story to max 2. wish they prted max 1 into max 2 engine. would have been a perfect match. better gunplay from mp 2 with epic atmosphere and setting from 1.

I never much got into the second game either, just seemed like a lower budget rehash to me when I played it. That said, playing the third one for an hour or two made me want to go back and play the first 2.

Finished it!

It's good, but it's also different. Not "modern derp game" different, but "developed by someone other than Remedy" different.

The good news are that the gameplay feels 100% Max Payne, but the style of the presentation etc not that much..

8/10. Recommended. Smile

For some reason I left the game unfinished on chapter 13 a month ago, so I finished it today. The gameplay was surprisingly challenging on higher levels. I liked the game, it felt like Max Payne and at the same time a little different. Just like the character of Max himself. Times have changed and Max Payne just evolved I guess. The favelas were wonderfully made, also the flashback chapters were the best part for me.

The last level was a cliche. It reminded me of Kane & Lynch 2. They should have done better there. Overall I would say 8.5/10

One of the better games this year. I can't say I ever hated a R* game...

I am still undecided whther I like the canon ending more or the DOA ending... I lean towards the latter and try to ignore MP3 at all, see that ending as the final closure.

True. While I totally loved the game, the flashbacks chapters were amazing. I would love whole new jersey/new york/winter/long coat/gritty/noire max Razz But then - we have first game

Good advice actually. Disabled MSAA (was on 2x) and jacked up FXAA, cant tell the difference much, even on a 27" monitor.
