Wow, could this really be what all PS3 users have been waiting for for so long? I'm going to remain a healthy skeptic for now, but this would be great indeed if it does come to pass.

as with all PS3 scene news, i'll believe it when i see it, but this time i have a strong feeling about it.
maybe soon i'll be able to enjoy resistance 3, disgaea 4, twisted metal, tales of graces F and others on my CFW PS3.

Well as it stands, no. If you're on the latest FW then you can't run the apps needed to convert your machine to a DEX -- so you'll have to buy a hardware flasher and downgrade to 3.55.

As if they would suddenly turn Samaritan... Would be funny if they somehow managed to put a timelimit (demomode) in the eboot which would only be unlocked by using their dongle. Technically still a free eboot!!!!!

yea, free is kinda better than not free, i concur.
being immensely sceptical about every bit of " " "news" " " from the ps3 scene,
i somehow get a really positive vibe from this one, cant really put my finger on it though...

Agreed but one can hope! I held off on the dex conversion. Hope it's worth the wait!

Hmmm, so this sounds to me like new releases will be somehow monetized, and then eboots made available for free to everyone after 1-2 months. But at the same time, once one person has the eboot it should spread like wildfire.
Curious to know exactly what they have planned.

What steps are required to downgrade a cech-3001b ? It appears to be possible but a ton of the info i'm finding is outdated. If anyone has a good link, I would really appreciate it!
Edit:
I should add firmware is current - but it seems the more important factor is the model number.

Do a search for minverchk and it'll tell you what the lowest firmware version you can downgrade to..

I have a feeling it's for that reason, yeah, the original leak appears to have been tagged with Anti-E3. There's a lot more to this behind the scenes, but I'm of the opinion that this was released to steal E3's thunder (and potentially undercut their profits that may/may not come from increased E3-Flasher sales after their new announcement) --- just as E3 announced freeboots and keys as a way to sell Flashers and put TB out of business. E3 has their own way of getting games working, though I still think there's more to the "free for everyone, even keys to sign your own!" announcement than just good will

I have it on good authority that the PSN versions of Jack & Daxter Collection, as well as MGS HD (no Peace Walker though, it's blocked on 3.55) and Rayman Origins are all 3.60 and can be decrypted now. I've also been told Resistance 3 is possible too, as cyclone said; the updates to that game are 3.60 signed.. so even though the base game is 3.66 (iirc) the updates actually lower that to 3.60.
