|
 |
Situation :
I am currently on a wi-fi connection to a router i have no access to.
My wifi connection randomly "dies", even tho it still says connected and only when i try to load a page in my browser (ff) it eventually tells me i have no connection anymore (even tho the adapter still shows the network etc and myself as connected).
When i am playing games, tribes for instance, this does not seem to occur , yet. I can play for an hour with good ping etc. But when i use browser, it will cause that issue and relativly fast (from 1min - 5 mins max).
its a rt2500 usb lan card , on windows 7 64x
(i deleted any old network related hardware from my pc, as far as i can tell, using command prompt to show old and unused devices) and several times uninstalled, rebooted, replugged, reinstalled.
Any help is appreciated

Not sure why a browser would cause it to happen but many of those WLAN USB NIC's are shit and will overheat under heavy usage and just drop connection.

yeah its probably my usb adapter.
Gonna buy a new one tomorrow and see if it changes.
Is there any difference between a usb based one or an internal ?

USB based ones are just shit. Just the way they are designed, and they overheat easy.

well got myself a trendnet pci wifi card. Now the signal strenght is 80-100 but its only at 11-24mbps, but i think its the router they have here that isnt strong enough (alltho i had 54mbps the first 2 days). I think someone is squatting the bandwidth, probably having torrents running or something ?. Hope it gets better soon (cant play tribes, sucks, ping and poor bw is making me warp all over the place haha).

This is why WIFI is shit to be honest.
The frequency range is so eaten up right now that you'll be hard pressed to actually get decent bandwidth, and anyone else sitting on the same WLAN as you can see all the packets you are sending to the outside world since they are on the same layer 2 network.

ok this is becoming a nightmare.
So i bought that pci card, which turned out to be utter shit, i guess. It worked for a day and now it wont connect anymore (keeps hanging at identifying then drops and repeats).
In meanwhile, my old usb wifi adapter does work fine, actually.
Aslong as i dont do certain things, like ...
try to run steam
open wikipedia (i know ...)
do speed tests etc.
those will kill the connection (not even drop it, just freeze it, kinda) and i have to disable/enable the adapter to reconnect (this only takes a second, it reconnects instantly). At least i can play tribes.
But i am a fanatic when it comes to my pc having issues with anything, so what the hell could be the issue ? Im guessing it is a conflict somewhere on the OS level, that conflicts with my wifi settings/adapters, but which ? Any inout is welcome, i have nothing else to do really (+i cant play most of my games, not even offline, because steam refuses to start).
