i guess i m alone on this one, but i found city not nearly as great as asylum.
asylum was perfectly paced and had a very good structure while city felt very disjointed at times,
it felt like bits were missing or cut and at times characters were introduced and thrown away within moments.
the atmosphere really suffered due to the open world design imo.

As someone said in the City thread, it is very rarely that we see such a good of a sequel. Even I was skeptical when they quickly announced the sequel back in 2009, but now I don't worry. Obviously there is a lot of love for the source material in the writing staff and art department, and it shows. |
Well hopefully they still have good writers -

It's the same for me. Sandbox games often suffer from the storyline feeling disjointed compared to linear games, and Batman is imho no different.

Meh, still waiting for a proper Gotham City where I (Batman) can roam and fight crime freely like a boss. With Kevin Conroy's voice, of course.
P.S.
Batman animated series was/is one my fav. childhood cartoon.

Paul Dini won't return as a writer either.
But, I disagree that that's what's more important (for me anyway).

Gameplay wise, the second game wasn't all that different than the first. So a good writing effort and a good level creation team, together with the existing gameplay tech, could come up with a great game.

Nowadays you never know, it's not safe to assume that the new team will preserve the formula, even if it's a very successful one.
I bet they'll try to leave their unique mark, adding new unnecessary features, with a pinch of derp and a glorious multiplayer mode forthefans ®

Meh. I've always found the first one overrated. Granted it was amazing for a comic book game, but the gameplay, setting and especially boss fights really didn't work for me. Arkham City was a good improvement from the first, and I had a lot more fun from that. So if they stick with what they did with Arkham City, I'm interested.

Arkham city had better gameplay (fight combos, boss fights, etc), asylum had a better story/setting with its tighter character focus and journeying through the island and it's magnificent locations.
Wish that failed steampunk batman game got picked up, that one looked and sounded pretty cool, especially if they're taking a new direction/universe/style with his next upcoming batman.
And if they made that into a dark, grim detective thriller story, with emphasis on stealth and story.... Fuck yes, I'd buy that... But I think we all know that'd never sell, so I'm just dreaming here

Rumor: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=51797541&postcount=1
Quote: | This is only a rumor for now, but Gameblog.fr is reporting (industry sources...) that Rocksteady is working on a new Batman Arkham game to be shown at E3 this year: Batman Arkham Origins. This time, the story will apparently take place around the 50s or 60s, and other members of the Justice League would also appear in the game. The rumor says it will be a PS4-Nextbox title, but with a chance of seeing it on PS360 too.
Here's the link to the original story (French only);
http://www.gameblog.fr/news/34714-batman-arkham-origins-devoile-a-l-e3-2013-sur-next-gen
Gameblog.fr's track record so far has been kinda hit and miss. Some of the rumors they posted ended up totally correct (I remember Child of Eden before the Kinect conference for instance) and sometimes not, so take it with a grain of Mont Saint-Michel salt. |
