Radio works with Spirit FM
Quote: | TVOut: unsupported and will probably never be |
Like I already said, this is the only feature missing.
Quote: | Wakeing the device up using volume keys might not work because the device is sleeping to deep and doesn't recognize key presses |
This is a CM feature, not android. You can't do it on stock S3
Quote: | Voicecall audio: working or not depends on the modem you're using. try some of them till you've found one that works |
Never had a problem with this, and if you have all you have to to is flash a different modem.
A phone that has such a large userbase will never be left behind in terms of software, at least for two years. The first galaxy s is still getting unofficial updates and the S2 is getting an official one.
I get what are you trying to say and I pretty much think the same, but if I have to choose between two phones with similar hardware and one of them is from Google I would choose the one from Google. But if there is a better phone out there that might not get the software as fast I would choose the better device. That's just me though.
Price is also important and if you are from the USA and can get the Gnex for $350 without contract I would definitely go with that. But If I'm already paying for the shitty contract might as well get what's best at the moment.

just looking at that link, and the link in that site for the removed items includes "Gmail.apk" lol how is that bloatware i use it daily ffs.
i used the xda list and removed what i thought was not needed to be there, lets be honest now, a fair amount of it makes no fucking impact on the phone as it runs just great with it all there anyhow..
zero trouble... dont want to see the fucking service/app on the phone just remove it from the phones desktop.. soon JB will be available as a normal download no fuss install anyhow which is nice.
enlighten me why anyone wants to fully turn off those small services on a phone, they dont take up that much cycles etc do they now...

I don't use gmail at all |
ah if u dont use it i guess sure, sorry was going with id like to think a majority of smartphone users would use gmail for the mail and mainly for the free chat and vid calling.
edit: anyone tell me why all youtube vids on most app info and tweaks and whatever else I tend to look at has an indian person behind the camera?
I mean have i missed something here but to me its like smartphone use or rather discussion is swamped by informative people from india.. not that its a bad thing its more an observation that its like 1 in 10 is not from india lol

I would advise freezing them instead of deleting them but you will need a cracked version of titanium(or paid version)

Thanks for this list, I might do it manually with Titanium rather than killing it all off, there's actually a good metering app that the carrier included that I'd like to keep
You'll have to forgive what probably appear to be stupid questions, I've been an iPhone user for 2 years and most things have been previously decided for me |

Removing the bloatware is a reason enough but here are some apps that I use and require root.
AdAway - removes adds
BetterBatteryStats - more detailed battery info
Lucky Patcher - useful for pirating apps
MarketEnabler - since some apps are limited in my region
RootExplorer - its a file manager that has access to system files
Light Flow - controls LED notifications
You can probably find more that suit your needs.

That debloat thing removes quite a lot. Just get Titanium backup and remove whatever app you wish.
There are several helpful apps which require rooting, Titanium and Chainfire 3D are probably the most important ones. Root explorers are handy too (you can remove the camera sound for example).

Id get the Moto X personally. But that's because I care about build quality.
http://anandtech.com/show/7384/state-of-cheating-in-android-benchmarks
It's up there in the benchmarks as well. So given the build quality, performance, and the fact that it's running a mostly bloat free version of Android; it's what I would buy if I couldn't get an iphone.
Also, it's built in the US if you buy it in the states which is nice.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with SG4 built quality. if you get S4 make sure it's i9505, you will be able to run Google Edition ROMs on it, as well as tons of other ROMs. i9505 is just the most developed for.
but you might want to wait for Nexus5 that's about to come out very soon and see how that compares to S4 hardware, performance, price wise. one thing for sure it won't have expansion SD card slot like S4 does.

Sure, there isn't anything "wrong". The fact is though that it isn't near the build levels of some other phones. Nor is it so much faster then other phones in the same price range that it's worth it frankly.

you keep claiming that, but most professional review websites who did in depth comparisons of S4 vs HTC One vs Moto vs LG G2 and other devices still claim S4 comes out on top. there is more to the device than what material its back cover is made from, you know.

You didn't mention the Moto X which is the current favorite on Anandtech.
And even without a MotoX I'd take a G2 over the s4.
And stay FAR away from the Note 3 since it's region locked.

Nobody likes the Nexus 4? It seems to get a lot of positive reviews

That's where I'm going next week which is why I thought I'd get one when it's cheap. That does look like a nice phone. |
My gf have nexus4. She got it last week. White.
It is VERY VERY well build. Sturdy as it can be. But it is outdated. It is fast and fluid in normal usage but in games and benchmarks it is way slower than my note2.
Even games like carmageddon arent 100% smooth like on my note2. And camera sucks mayor ass.
Actually If I were You, I would search for note2. It's price came down thanks to n3 coming out and it is still a fantastic phone. It have 2gb of ram unlike sgs3 and screen is wonderfull. OFc I have it and thats one of the reason why I am recommending it. very fast, very fluid, fantastic battery and great camera (ook in gneral chatter, I uploaded some pics in two topics) and the pen is a godsend for internet browsing
I had no experience with n3, but I had some play time with htc one and sgs4 (buddies at work have those)
sgs iv is well build. Plastic but well build. Screen is very nice, tho it feels small for n2 user like me. It is way faster than n2 in benchmarks ofc. Camera is about the same I think. It is a fantastic phone but as I was toying with it, it got very hot. And my friend says that bettery sucks.
Htc one have ebst build quality of all. Screen is again fantastic, speeds are fantastic. Camera is not as good as on samsung I feel. battery is crap tho.
But the build man - wow. This is one sleek aluminium phone. Again - feels small to me

I like Nexus 4. Other than the fact it's Google ecosystem, it's better than most of the other Android crap.

I'm either going to outright buy the Nexus 5 or try for the LG G2/Sony Z1. Better specs than the SG4, more screen space and they seem like decently built phones.
