Aliens (MAME) is a brilliant co-op 2 player game.
Super Sprint and/or Championship Sprint (MAME) an incredibly addictive overhead racing game.
Super Off-Road (MAME) same as Super Sprint.

I enjoy Raiden and Raiden II, I think Raiden II has some problems though, no sound if I remember correctly.
I think there's a special version of MAME out though specifically with Raiden II in mind.

Well I too am on the hunt for mame games now. i've gone into old school games, playin snes genesis etc.
Since ive played through most of the snes and genesis games i like i'm moving onto mame 
Although this is quite boring and easy (unlimited continues on most games) its still pretty fun
So far ive played, MJ's moonwalker, Alien vs predator, Aliens, Altered beast, Shinobi, Shootout (so hard >_<), The simpsons, Warriors or fate, Darius gaiden and contra.
Name some others (ive tried others but didn't like them as much)

for a nice challenge.....
Firetrap, but you need dual sticks because unlike the c64 version, you control each arm individually.
Nothing like stopping a car (why do they have cars in skyrise apartments) with a few blasts of circular water.
Good times.
