A girl i know started a blog about doing fingernails etc, typical girl stuff and i know there is a million fashion and make up related blogs out there, but she does her own thing and seems to be good at it.
She likes to use pinterest to get new ideas, and tries to share her blog on pinterest but gets no traffic from it so she asked me for advice.
But i honestly cant figure out the logic in this website, i understand the uploading pic, or using a pic from the website you wanna link to, use that website as target url or manually enter one, and add a comment if you want to.
I cant seem to have those pins show up anywhere..... so people cant see it and repin or like it.
Tried my best googling to no avail, as far as i understoof it "popular" section is the place where popular pins are shown with a certain amount of repins or likes, kind of like the front page of digg.com back in the day.
"Everything" is supposed to be the "upcoming" section of digg.com where you can check out the fresh pins made by users, as this got widely abused for spam purposes only one pin you make per 12 hours is shown in the "everything" section.
then there is the "category" section which is like the "everything" section but with categories depending what you want to have as filter, unlike the "everythign" section everything should show here that you pin.
So... made a test account, >nothing< as far as i can tell shows anywhere of what i pin, and get zero traffic. i only see it in the "following" section cause obviously.... i follow myself along with 50 random people i get assigned when starting the account.
Hoped one of you internet gurus could help me out here to explain this pinterest myth to me, thanks!

People pin something that interests them.
If other people like it they repin it.
If it gets repinned a lot it gets special attention from the website itself.
It's become popular amongst women because it's a quick way to examine, shop for, and share clothes/cosmetics/shoes/whatever

Ah you're wondering how your pins are displayed? Your friends see them, if they repin them enough they start showing up in other people's results when they search for things on Pinterest. They're displayed randomly to random people as they search. If people don't repin your stuff enough, then it displays it less and less...

but if you start from scratch, with no friends on pinterest... how will random people discover them if i cant seem them to show up even in the "everything" section, enabling her to get "friends" on pinterest who follow her.

They do show up, just randomly, which is why you don't see them when you look (because it's displayed randomly). And if no one clicks on the pin, then the probability it gets displayed randomly gets lower and lower...
