Someone's bday is coming and it's a movie lover..

I was lookin for an external Multimedia HDD ..one with HDMI,MKV and well,up to date..for now i'm NOT looking for those internet multimedia drives

This is planned to be plugged in a 40" TV with HDMI,ofcourse..hopefully this drive can play, sides of MKV files, BluRay Rip files (720 and 1080p)

What's the best out there?..i've seen Western Digital ones (some people complains about the iomega)

Thanks in advance

You're not looking for a "Multimedia HDD", you're looking for a mediaplayer that may or may not hold a HDD. I've personally used AC Ryan's players and they're pretty damn awesome. Not perfect, but close enough. They also have the nicest interface of all the mediaplayers I've seen.

Why not just get a Buffalo ministation and jack that up to your TV? I bought one at 500gb for 40 euros and it is absolutely stellar.

So? My Media player was shipped from EU, and I live in US. Got here just fine with no issues.

Not sure about Iomega, never heard about the company.

There are plenty of other media players such as WDTV Live Hub, or Boxee, or Popcon that that can go qutie expensive

Iomega is a nice brand. I think it's a Seagate drive under the box but I'm not sure.

But the drive does not matter in media player devices as it can be easily upgraded/replaced.. It's all about the chip whether is it realtek and if it can play 1080p movies smottly

I'm still in the search for one of these drives

The problem is...all recent ones from Iomega and Western Digital CANNOT be connected to a PC and transfer files via USB...they now only accept WiFi and Ethernet transfers..and external HDD Drives, but they're slow transferng (Wifi/Ethernet,so i've read'd on google)

The question is..i've got a 7MB DSL (or ADSL in spain)...if i connect for example the Western Digital TV Live Hub via Wireless or Ethernet cable...will the files be transferred at 700kb/s (aka 7MB) ?....

Sadly,Iomega and WD are the only type of drives we have in Spain and they seem very trusty (WD specially,EXCEPT for the Elements Play one)

Can anybody help me,please?..

If it's gig ethernet it should transfer fast enough.

Not as fast as USB 3.0, but a hell of a lot faster then USB 2.0.

Your 7Mbps is your transport to the ISP. Assuming both devices are on the same LAN and the switch is gige then you will get gige speeds.

This is what I have and it will pretty much play anything under the sun and 1080p runs smooth as silk on it.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one

Xtreamer Prodigy and ACRyan Playon HD are nice. The WDTV devices are very pricey for what they offer imo, I don't know how Iomega is.

Iomega is a good brand I use their KVM switches personally. I had an issue with mine and their tech support was quick to respond and got it sorted quickly.
