In nordic countries only. Troll Face

Quote:
In mid-October, HBO will sell streaming subscriptions to non-cable customers for the first time, but it won't be for customers in the US, Variety reports. The premium TV network announced its plans in Stockholm today, and as Variety reports, the new service, called HBO Nordic AB, will launch in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. According to the report, the service will cost under €10 per month (about $12.50), and the service will also include content from HBO's competitors, including Showtime and Starz.

While HBO has offered streaming service to its existing customers with HBO GO, that service still requires a traditional cable subscription — an annoyance for cord-cutters who enjoy HBO programming. It's nice to see HBO finally starting to innovate with an alternative business model, but as Variety points out, HBO isn't risking much by doing so in Nordic countries: Variety says that "Scandinavia is a market where HBO doesn't have to protect an entrenched business model as lucrative as the one in the US" — something the company admitted earlier this year when customers expressed interest in standalone HBO service. As HBO tells Gizmodo, "this model is specific to the Nordic region, taking into consideration the various factors specific to these countries."

Not a bad deal, since you get Showtime and Starz too. Might just pick up a subscription.

We don't 'do' dubs around here, and subs most likely are toggleable (unless they fuck it up).

The only time we have forced subs over here is at Kino and other cinemas, Norsk subs are on English films, but we never force-dub anything. Childrens movies often have a selectable Norwegian language track though Smile

They will probably do soft subs, it would be the cheapest option if nothing else. Think about it, to do hard subs they would have to reencode their entire library three times over. Seems like an incredibly stupid option.

For the soft subs option they only need to find some ppl in Khazakstan or someplace where they don't speak English or Swedish/Norweigan/Danish/Finnish to create the subtitles (cause the fuckers who do them here in Sweden are usually worse at English than i was at 12 years old or so)

edit: i'm agreeing with inz, adding my two cents why i agree...

If we want to watch shows in English here in the 3rd world, we have to rely on our business model based on torrents and filehosters xD Very Happy

Haha Very Happy

The only thing we get Dutch dubs for are children's shows; and the DVD/BR have always had multiple audio tracks. Sadly that wasn't possible with VHS when I was a kid :'(

In fact, most stuff here comes with original English audio, Dutch, Flemish and French because they're Benelux releases. With Disney films I always preferred Flemish at the cinema (we usually went to Belgium, cinemas are cheaper there) when I was a kid, because it sounds funny Razz
Doing the same with my nephew, some Flemish voices are MUCH better than the Dutch ones Very Happy

emm. "Watch the latest episodes straight after the US premiere." Kind of a dealbreaker if you ask me to be downprioritized. If there was a really good reason for this however then it's no problem.

For me it depends on how long.. If we are talking 1 hour after US showtime im ok with that.. (im usually a sleep at that time anyway), but 24 hours? not so much..

you get the service for free in the ughmerica if you subscribe to HBO on your cable provider. and pretty much you buy any premium package with movie channels you get HBO in it too.
