They could have strung out the story and ruin it. Of course. It could be that the major players are working on other projects and there's no time to finish the season in one run.
Great episode but like it's been said, what a long wait ahead of us :`(
Walt is really a despicable character, but the show is not about justifying him (or pointing fingers at him). For me it's more about the whole process of him breaking bad (the series title coudln't be more spot-on ) and I have to say, Bryan Cranston has done an amazingly fabulous job portraying that.
I don't think the story is going to end well for Walt whatsoever, either he'll die violently (or "peacefully" like Mike) or he will be completely alone and marginated by the finale. And it's not about showing that "crime doesn't pay" but just the logical conclusion to a self-destructing process that it was too late for him to stop at this point (last episode).
I think the definitive game changer next season will be Jesse. And by the way, what a powerful moment when he checked the bag Walt left for him and them put away the gun he had concealed, looking mad and confused. Seems like he still hasn't realized that Walt actually cares for him and I would go as far as to say that he loves Jesse like he was his own son. But still, when he finally learns about the awful truths that Walt hides from him, it's just going to make him nuts.

I still can't get my head around at the beginning from S5, where he was sitting in that diner (?) including hair on his headand with a new alias if I remember correctly.
