The new Kindle Paperwhite, looks pretty good with the built-in light! but still wonder how it would go against E-ink...$119 vs $69..will there ever be colour E-ink?

and do think I bought new kindle in Juny, and also new Kindle Paperwhite has 8 weeks battery time instead of 4 weeks!

Fire HD looks, pretty sweet too for the price that is

also waiting for the release of amazon android based phone, hopefully those werent rumors

I wish there would be an option to upgrade old kindle for new one, but one can only dream

Meh... as far as I'm concerned, without e-ink there's just no point to the Kindle :/

Amazon does have trade-in's for Kindles but they give you nothing. I have a kindle 3 wi-fi and they offer 19 bucks for it. so not really worth it to me.

The paperwhite one looks nice. I am probably going to get one of those.

Oh! Thanks, I only saw the Fire stuff on the link from Hijacker. In that case - yeah, the Paperwhite model would be something I'd get. My missus has a Kindle 3G Keyboard and it is magnificent, it really is like looking at printed text on a book. The Fire stuff is just a run of the mill tablet, if I wanted that I'd use the Kindle app on my iPad2 Smile

I always thought that E-Ink was some sort of bullocks until last year when I finally saw one up close. My buddy said the thing was turned on and I'm like no fucking way, there's no way that screen is *pushes screen and it switches page* .........holy fuck.........that is real

I did not know that, I guess, I will be ordering Kindle Paperwhite in near future.

If you don't already have a tablet or such device, I guess the FireHD would be a decent choice... but egh... for the same price you can get the Nexus 7 which not only has a Kindle app (the Fire doesn't have eInk so you'd be getting the same functionality) but the 7 is also monstrously powerful Very Happy

Nope, no tablet here, not interested in one at this point. But I might buy Google Nexus 7 at the end of the year but no rush. I rather have dedicated reading device as I try to read at least one book every week.

In that case the standard Kindle or the new Kindle Paperwhite would be all you need .. because yeah, like SpykeZ said; that display is just magnificent. I've used "cheaper" devices - like the ones from WH Smith - and they're AWFUL! The screen quality sucks and the refresh rate on the screen is terrible, so much delay and so much screen writing, urgh.

Well, the interesting thing about the new Paperwhite screen is that in comparison to the previous Pearl screen (which was also used in the Nook), it has more pixels (PPI from 169 to 212) and hence higher resolution. There also seems to be an improvement in contrast and speed of page turning. I have the kindle touch from last year and it uses IR for it's touch screen technology and this time around they switched to the usual capacitive stuff which allowed them to make it thinner. All in all it's an improvement on all fronts for an already amazing product both quality wise and price wise. I'm pretty much getting this for myself, despite I've bought my kindle less then a year ago (they are an awesome gift even when used, so it's not a big deal to find a new home for them) Smile

Also, the other day my father accidentally broke his older kindle keyboard. It was still under warranty so I gave amazon's support a call and explained the situation and guess what? They didn't ask for proof it was broken, neither did they ask to send it to them...they just sent me a better touch model with wifi and 3g (the most expensive model before the announcement yesterday) for free (even the shipping and handling costs)! Fuck me, that's what a customer oriented company looks like.

I have the ads version of touch and it's so unobtrusive that I wouldn't pay money to remove it even if it were 5$.

I would love a kindle paperwhite but it's not mentioned anywhere on European Amazon. I ordered my original first generation kindle from the US Amazon without issues but for the paperwhite they don't allow shipping to Europe Sad

at least the fire is now finally going to be available but with the nexus 7 so close I don't even care any more
