this game feels so weird coming off a few years of fifa.
does taking off all assists render the manual pass button useless?

Briefly tried the demo, it's not bad at all. It looks exactly like the 2012 version (dat blur filter) but the gameplay has been substantially improved, imo. Manual passing/shooting are well made (and hard to master) and there's a good amount of freedom in the game, generally it looks less "automatized" than before (as long as you disable all the aids, of course). 
The robotic animations are still there, but we've got to deal with it, as always.

Ages ago I used to play football games for months, now I basically do some quick match from time to time and I'm already fully satiated. I think we're getting old. |

Yeah , I guess that's the case..few years ago master league and me was enough to hold me for months , now I can't even imagine playing like that. |

Some more demo impressions:
- Double tap defense button used anytime you want it is a great addition.
- Manual crossing with or without the arrows is great.Seeing the striker make a forward move and trying to pinpoint a manual 50m cross to him is now possible.
- Manual shooting is just perfect.
- Player ID maybe is the biggest feature of this game.Having the ball with Ronaldo,Pirlo or other players have never felt so real in a football game.
- Sliding tackles now are improved and there is a 50-50 chance of a foul being called.
- AI backpasses and makes use of the Player ID too with players dribbling and not only passing.
Some flaws:
- They need to tone down a little the rebounds after shots.
- Still no yellow cards after ref advantage.
