I once went through something similar. At some point, the girls ended up talking on the phone, and the whole situation degenerated into a major clusterfuck. I lost an exam for this shit, i was in Uni at that time. So much easier if i kept it in the pants...

How far? Another city, country? A really serious relationship, or just messing around? If it's the latter having two gf's is ok, especially if they don't know about eachother

Overall I'm not surprised, long-distance relationships rarely work out.
Hooking with an ex is however generally not advised, srsly. There was a reason you broke up.

Luckily mine did. For 7 years and now we are married and still working on moving together 
2000+ km and there were times where we didn't see each other for ~2 years in person
