Just check the chain next to it. If it's curled up with the end facing away from the front, open it. If it's not curled and the end is facing towards the front, smash it.

So someone managed to hack together a working 60fps fix. It makes the game run at 60fps without speeding up the animation, it just changes the internal time divider. Tho that does mean it slows down if your famerate drops below 30fps.
So it's in alpha and it doesn't even let you sign on to GFWL, so the thing may not even pan out. I tried it tho and played from character creation to just past the Taurus Demon and man 60fps Dark Souls is wild. It's like the first time you saw one of those TVs that does the smooth motion thing to a movie, it looks strange. Not sure everyone will even like it, but for those who do I hope he keeps working on it and the thing pans out.
The posts regarding it and the download for the alpha are currently only in the comments on Durante's current blog post here.

im surprised that no one else is talking about that yet. i posted it last night thinking everyone would be talking about it by now...i think its awesome. there are people in the various comments talking about how they dont like it, one guy said the roll distance is shorter now (wtf) and yet another guy thinks it breaks collision detection because he fell through the floor after sliding down a ladder. i havnt had a single issue with it yet personally. i dont see how it could effect the roll distance at all, but i havnt actually tested it scientifically yet so i shouldnt talk i guess...

well it could affect rolling.
in call of duty multiplayer people often go for 120+ framerate because you can jump higher and further.

wow i didnt know that. i guess if its physics/math controlling how far you go (based on your velocity etc) then the frame rate could have an impact (as opposed to the devs hard coding jumpdistance = 2).
i have been playing at 60 fps since last night and i havnt noticed any difference in the roll, but this is my first play through and im only about 13 hours in, so i may not be able to feel any differences simply because i am not as familiar with the game.
edit - i just did a test and the roll distance is the same with and without the 60 fps mod.

yeah i am running @1920x1200 with smaa and all the stuff in dsfix turned on. its face melting imo. i cant wait to see what happens next. it looks like the author of dsfix and the guy who made the 60fps mod were talking in the comments. hopefully between the two of them, we can get a dsfix with hud mods at 60fps at some point soon.

Yeah, fully customized HUD without any issues + 1080p + 60fps would be totally awesome.
I've been testing it for about an hour and haven't spotted anything odd. (Rolling feels the same IMO.)

Guys can you keep the technical stuff to the technical section please?

The bell gargoyles... which level should you be at to kill them? And how is everyone and their dog playing with the dragon sword?!
And what use is there to the big hammer of the asylum monster if I can only swing it with 2 dmg.

im sure that roll/jump are the same. i used the backstep move to wedge myself into a corner, then forward rolled out and took a screen of the ground where i landed. i got a few screens with and without the mod, and you cant tell them apart. jump was harder to test, because you cant jump without a running start, which makes it hard to jump from the exact same spot over and over. even the screens from that dont show any real difference in distance.
one thing that might be different at 60 fps is the corpses. they seem even lighter and more fluffy/floating to me now. that could be my imagination though, i have always had them get tangled up in my legs when i walk over them, it just seems more common today...

Quote: | The bell gargoyles... which level should you be at to kill them? | Level 1 if you are good enough. But you can summon Solaire and Lautrec if you're human. Makes it laughably piss easy. (Just talk to Solaire before the dragon bridge to make him available, and free Lautrec, go back to Firelink Shrine and talk to him there to make his sign appear.)
Quote: | And how is everyone and their dog playing with the dragon sword?! | Shoot the dragon's tail with a bow until it falls out. Just stock lots of arrows.
Quote: | And what use is there to the big hammer of the asylum monster if I can only swing it with 2 dmg. | If you read the warning message when you equip it you'll notice that you lack the necessary attributes to handle it correctly. If your STR is too low, your strikes are clumsy and slow. If only your DEX is too low then you swing it just right, but can't land and real hits and barely scratch the enemy.

Thanks for the replies! I really appreciate this!
I freed lautrec but I don't think I have any humanity left to get into human form.
-
Don't know, feels like using a glitch... Plus I don't have a bow and the bad habit toll kill every NPC when I think that there is no more need for him
-
I can't seem to understand the UI, I just fail to see which attributes are required by the weapon and where I have to increase :/
Is it like oh you have 1point less str than required, your weapon will now do 2 dmg instead of 135?!

Spoiler: | |
If you dont meet them you wont do any damage with the weapon
Requirements are to the right and bonus damage is to the left. If you have high strenght you'll need a weapon with an A or B in strenght, if you have high dex you'll need a weapon with an A or B in dex and so on

Nothing is intuitive in this game.. The menus are anti-human, some level design are anti-sanity and the items.. you get rings with "doubles damage taken by the wearer" for a description.. the fuck?! yoU KEEP IT !!

the overall level design itself is great with all the shortcuts and connections.
but yea, some parts like crystal cavern and giants tomb are pure trolling.

Why giant tomb? There is at least 3 ways to make it brighter? Lantern, head wear, magic...
Or did you mean something else!
