There was a closed beta, then a weekend stress beta, and then it got cracked to remove the online requirement -- making it a permanent extended demo.

Has anyone here preordered it from PerfectWorld? I wonder if they give you steam key or is it separate installer/downloader?

Steam is the way to go on this. I've seen confirmation somewhere (not gonna dig for it, but a dev said it) that they would be adding in Steam Workshop support for this game. I'm not sure why this is not a Steamworks game across the board. Direct order from them should give people a Steam key. That's the only thing that has been mishandled with this game IMO.

It's 20 bucks here in Poland but the place where I preordered it says that they will give a Steam key from boxed version which will be released by this fuckers from Cenega in October. But the funny thing is that the boxed version might be nonsteam and nobody can confirm it.
EDIT: And I contacted those losers at Cenega but they send me autoresponse that they will answer me in 5 day time.

This is from JediFreeman, webmaster at Runic;
http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?p=300918#p300918
Quote: |
1 - There are two versions of Torchlight II - Runic and Steam.
RUNIC VERSION: If you buy from us directly, Perfect World, or the Daedalic retail box in Germany, you will get a Runic Key and everything will work the same for all of them. The game is "unlockable", meaning until you enter the key it functions in "demo" mode. Once you have activated, you are done in regards to DRM!
STEAM VERSION: If you buy from a partner that sells a Steam key (Gamefly/Direct2Drive, Gamestop, GamersGate) you will get a Steam Key that you put into your Steam client to unlock the game on Steam. Buying direct from Steam does not give you a key, it just links it to your account! Once you have the game on Steam, you are done in regards to DRM!
|
Looks like the only way to get a Steam key is to buy digital, retail and PWE copies are all standalone -- and not even noDRM at that, you need an activation code.

Well it's not bound to Steam so a retail version could leak earlier, you could play it immediately in demo mode that way as well and then copy over a modified exe or whatever to unlock the full game and continue playing.
(Haven't heard anything from Perfect World about my pre-order and the download link doesn't currently work - links to Torchlight 1 setup file - but I'll try again tomorrow morning just to see, I doubt it'll be available that quickly though.)

Yes I wonder when it'll be available, going by Steam it would mean (Unless it's changed.) tomorrow at 20.00 evening or 14.00 afternoon US time if I got that right.

This game, THIS fucking game, in like one day or so I've played more than 12hrs, I'm seriously, seriously addicted to it. Sadly I had a power outage today so I'm only being able to play it now, almost at the end of act two and onwards to act three. currently at lvl 30 with my engineer and lvl 20 with my embermage

Torchlight 2 Torchlight 2 Seems only yesterday that the BL2 angst was palpable on these boards n now its TL2. Its a nfohump gaming frenzy.
Not bein critical at all I got caught up in the BL2 one so bad I bought the game at gmg cept the site crashed during transaction and the greedy fuckrs took my money but wouldn't give me a key. All day yesterday gmg saying they reversed the transaction and Visa sayin they didn't have my money, me sayin bugger it I'm not payin for a game I don't have. Course the old isodemo came out early on in the piece so I did have the game. Today reversal came thru talk about a day late and a dollar short -well 47 cents less than I paid out came back n GreedInc has lost out thanks to gross corporate incompetence.
Not just my lousy £25 funny money either since gmg plainly wasn't coping t'other night of mega sales of BL2, the failure to sell BL2 before isodemo release must have lost more'n a few hunnerd sales.
Anyway I'm not gonna succumb to the TL2 mania unless a fit of altruism persuades me to find a way to buy the game that ensures the actual developers get the dosh & not the usual parasites who have their snouts in the GreedInc trough.
Yahh cured - at least until the next nfohump gaming frenzy.

What do you think will happen if we try to use a TL2 beta sharedstash/save char in the retail? Is it worth it giving it a shot? Won't work/load at all?
I played a few chars to the 21 lvl limit with the beta. Had fun. Even if I can't use the toons, the stash would definitely be nice to use if possible.
