Since when CD Key for MP game is DRM? | since backward retards from the PS3 camp said Online Keys are the new kind of old school DRM to fight of piracy ... and since the industry now defines used sales as piracy profit ... gaming industry PR the land of backward retards ...
as for myself this GOG cd key policy is ok , you get a game with out FADE and that counts and get a key free key every time you mail them

Multipayer cd keys are drm.
They claim "drm free"yet they include drm. that was my only point.
Cd Keys ARE drm. How could you possibly argue that they are not?
Their entire purpose is to restrict unauthorized copies of the game from being able to play online.
That is the definition of DRM.
I dont buy from GOG but when I want to play online I buy from steam.
Im just tired of GOG claiming DRM free when they use DRM.
Even if many of you do not understand the meaning of DRM. I guess thats how GOG can keep lying about it

New GOG releases:
Prince of Persia 2008
FTL (Faster Than Light)
Warlords Battlecy (one of my old favorites, still have the CD's around)
Warlords Battlecry was a pioneer when it was released, a vastly under appreciated game. It had hero skills and it played as a mix of RPG and RTS. In the good old times of Gamespot it won "the best game no one played", along with the original Disciples and the first Age of Wonders.

ok let me put this in words you can understand
CD key IS NOT A DRM ! NEVER WAS NEVER WILL ! why you may ask ? well a cd key is only a protection for MP to allow only legit users to go play online witch is fair , if a"drm free" game won't have MP every1 will pirate it and play with the legit customers witch is not fair. IMO every single game with a MP feature should have cd key for MP content .
CD keys for MP
-if you cheat and you r banned you need to buy a new game
-pirated games will have content that is unavailable with a pirated copy , witch is fair SP is enough for a pirate game
- A CD KEY IS NOT A DRM !!!!! EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER !!!
With your logic an account for a MMO game (for example) is a DRM
Digital rights management (DRM) is a class of access control technologies that are used by hardware manufacturers, publishers, copyright holders and individuals with the intent to LIMIT THE USE OF DIGITAL CONTENT AND DEVICES AFTER SALE.
Now i hope you know what a DRM is and what a CD Key is.

No it's not, there are many single-player only games which require a cd-key.

Seriously, what is the issue there? |
EA doesn't have the rights to the System Shock franchise. The copyright belonged to Looking Glass and since it shut down an insurance company managed to get it. The System Shocks are old games, and EA has no plans to revive the franchise with a sequel/reboot, because Dead Space fills the gap of "horror in space" games nicely (for today's action-demanding audiences), in fact there's evidence the game started as System Shock 3 and went into its own direction probably because they didn't have the rights to the System Shock brand, so just having to buy the rights to rerelease the old games is probably something they think it's not worth it, since they didn't do it for a AAA game (Dead Space) in the first place.
http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/713030/the-lost-history-of-system-shock/
Quote: | But even if EA wanted to publish another System Shock, the company didn't have the rights to do so. Back when the original game was made, producer Warren Spector negotiated a deal in which EA got the trademark to the series, while the developers at Looking Glass Studios kept the rights. To create another System Shock game, you need both. "My thinking was it would force us to be married so it never would be that either party should be able to say we own that, we’re making the next game, screw you," Spector told the San Jose Mercury News last November.
In hindsight, the deal only jeopardized System Shock’s future. Looking Glass Studios closed in 2000, a year after System Shock 2's release, and the copyright to the series went into the hands of an insurance company. That left EA with only the System Shock name, but no actual development rights.
In 2007, the System Shock trademark went dead, abandoned by EA. The Redwood Shores studio went on to develop Dead Space, a game with some uncanny similarities to System Shock -- upgradeable attributes, scattered audio logs and a desolate space station overrun by monsters -- but no conclusive evidence that the two games are related.
Exactly what happened on EA’s end remains a mystery. The publisher never confirmed whether it was working on System Shock 3, and declined to comment for this story.
As Spector had mentioned, an insurance company got the rights to System Shock after Looking Glass Studios shut down. I tracked down the insurer, Star Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Michigan-based Meadowbrook Insurance Group, Inc., and confirmed that the rights are available for sale.
George Borkowski, an outside counsel for Meadowbrook, said the company would consider selling the rights to a game publisher or developer. "The idea would be to enter into some kind of arrangement where the game would be developed and that Meadowbrook would be compensated,” he said.
It sounds to me like Meadowbrook wants a game company to share sales revenue, but Borkowski wouldn't talk about financial details. He did say that there have been inquiries about the rights, but elaborated no further. |
