Well, you can't figure out gameplay from this demo, so that's something for the full version.
And as far as the controls are concerned, it would feel weird playing a turn based tactical strategy game with a gamepad on PC...I guess the disappointment stems mainly from the fact the game is a console port. I hoped Firaxis would invest more time in PC gamers.

In any case, it's just first impressions and I hope the full game will impress more. Just glad I didn't preorder though.

um took me 2 mins to adapt to the controls... Dont really have a big issue with them.
You can use space to activate a skill, click it, or simply press the "action button" twice. Its also easy to cycle through the enemies that are visible.

One thing i find strange, is how my squadmember gets to shoot stuff behind walls. I believe they are suppose to shoot a enemy that peeks around the corner, but doesnt work well when the enemy is actually peeking the otherway through a buildings window or such. Hopefully fixed in the finished product.

Imo these two tutorial mission in the demo are alright, however, I do agree that they dont show off alot of the xcom game mechanics that one might want to see.
Also some issues with the camera and the whole over the shoulder thing, but I can live with it.

Go here, now go here. Oh and commander? click this button, now click this button. Herp derp.
A rocket launcher is an ability now? what?!
What happened to having equipment?
Why is there bonuses to the placement of the base? this is some dumbed down shit. The only bonus there should be should be the location and the satisfaction of the country in which the base is placed. Not 50% cheaper and faster fighters or instant autopsy - how does an instant autopsy even make sense.
And I can't upgrade my radar and scan for ufo's I just go from mission to mission in a linear fashion. Doing what I'm told by the asshole in mission control.
Could find no way of turning off the action sequences either.

Now that is what I call some hardcore spergin.

Ya I agree with nothing up above - I played the old games, if I want to play the old games, I would just do that...And ya its a tutorial, like every other...

Just wanted to tell people that there is no reason to try both missions (they are the same sadly).
One thing I don´t like its that its either hit or miss when shooting. I would rather the number for a complete miss was lower (its elite soldiers shooting 5 meters from the enemy) and then how low successes would then make lesser wounds.

And I have a feeling that was the last heavy ive ever played with - I want ALL the goodies from those aliens!! Seeing that "plasma rifle is in fragments" is like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Yeah... Well... The devs said in one of the interviews that all alien weapons are destroyed when the enemy soldier dies... so good luck with that.

Nope. Always destroyed. You just can't pick them up - genetically coded or something like this was the explanation. You will always get the pieces.
And as far as I remember you will have to capture some aliens to even start researching the weapons.

Ok I understood it from an earlier video that if you throw about grenades and shoot rockets you lose out on shit. I dont care for picking up alien tech in the heat of the battle - frankly I would rather finish the game with some good old assault rifles Smile
But if one wants to capture corpses, it sounds like one shouldnt be exploding them to pieces? Wink

There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

Played the demo, and damn it's such a tease Very Happy 2 weeks and 2 days Crying or Very sad

Interface works best with mouse + keyboard, once you get used to it, it actually saves on mouse moves across the screen. Edge scroll speed increases WASD scrolling too, I have put it to the max.

Second mission was different from the one in latest German preview video.

I've heard the same thing about explosives destroying enemy equipment, but in recent videos I've seen things such as "alien plasma pistol shattered" when the enemy was killed with regular bullets.

If you stun the enemy, the weapon will not be destroyed. It gives you a research boost in weapons parts or such, so that u can build the human version of the weapon after the research is done. If I've understood it right, basically more materials = easier/faster research.

this.
they explained that the alien weapons are linked with the wielder and if he get killed, the weapon itself self-destruct to prevent recovery.

Yeah i think the only way to make this game even more derpier would have been to just ditch the tb combat and all the other outdated mechanics altogether and make a shallow fps out of it ... oh wait...

i really don't know where to start, i have something to complain for every mouse click i pressed in that demo.

I actually thought Firaxis could make a tolerable x-com. But this is just disgusting. Consolized bullshit. Its just one step above the GOW crap.

Ali213 has a rip available at 713 MB, unsure what they removed though it's probably just stuff like movies and localization data.

Now lets see how XCOM (the other XCOM game) will play like... Imagine it.. it's the 60'ies, you're in a suburbia, shooting aliens with a shotgun. Sounds very XCOM, doesn't it? Wink
