You get forced into some cobat sequences in this game. How do you deal with that when trying to ghost? I want to complete every quest, and now i met some granny person who asked me to get rid of some thugs at the door and they immediately start attacking me.

Spoiler: |
Go up and around out the balcony. Silently choke out the one furthest back. Sneak up behind the one on the right, sleep dart the one at the door, and immediately start choking out the one you're behind.
There's another instance far later on in the game with the same NPC that forces an extremely stupid move in order to get Ghost/Non Lethal. Extremely bad design choice as far as quests go with that Granny bitch.

The stealth and reward system isn't like DE:HR right with XP for actions? Also can you knock out everybody and would it still be
treated the same as Corvo not being detected by them ala Ghost rating?
1 and 2 are still amazing.

There was another one. I saw 2 thugs at a door and a guy behind a door with wooden planks covering it who yelled for help. I tried using a sleeping bolt but the other of course becomes aware and i'm not sure if that counts for me still being a ghost as he haven't seen me. How did you handle it?

Jup. I got ghost and not killing anyone achievements despite throwing oil tanks, alarming guards, being heard by guards and even be seen for a short duration. I think that they can even find bodies and you still get ghost, but I'm not completely sure about that one.

You get ghost if you don't get attacked (fully detected) and if you don't kill anyone, that's it.

As long as their indicator doesn't go full red (they seen or heard you for a short duration) you are not detected and can get ghost achievement. Guards finding unconscious bodies doesnt count for detection either.

Spoiler: | Be patient you dummy
Never played any game like this before? Give it a minute or so until they're done shouting at the dude, they'll split up; one moves in the alley while the other stays at the door. |

More patience then, especially in this game it's worth just quietly eaves dropping for a while - both for the conversations (and some are quite amusing ) as for the inevitable "k done talking, bye" at the end

No one is taking any piss in my game. Been watching them forever now and nothing happens. Just coughing and spitting and on rare occasions a few words.
Edit: really? almost 20 minutes and nothing has happened? Either this is bugged or fucked up.

Spoiler: | Did you try throwing a glass bottle to distract them? I think that's what I did. I can't remember if that made them move or just turn towards the sound source, but either way it can help. Also, I think I might have just blinked to the spot between the barricaded door and the two guys. |

finally finished it... i killed like 2 guys total.. spared everyone else... ghost pretty much all the time... i wanted to go like a totally good guy..
It was nice.. but.. meh.. i had no need of any upgrades or runes aside the blink & vision & possession + agility. The very first bone for faster choke stayed with me to the last. Blinking + choking + blinking back... made the game way too easy. Additionally the enemies were not the brightest on hard.. they wont notice missing guardsmen or investigate open doors (only once something like that happened - when i left regents safe open).
I loved the steam-punk setting tho.
the thing that sucked the most for me is the ending -.-
Spoiler: | during the loading its told how whatever you do has consequences for the final.. bollocks, nothing like that. There was nothing mentioning the decisions i made, showoff the people i spared and the consequences of that for the world... just a lameass minute of irrelevant things...(at least i was expecting something like fallouts 3 one.. or at least a dramatic scene like bioshocks 1/2 endings.)
Dishonored ending alone makes the game not worth it, considering what ive expected of it, so much potential wasted on that -.- |

Finished it, it's an amazing game. Playthrough was a mixed bag of killing (when necessary) and stealth. Didn't go for ghost (i still got it in one mission, The Loyalists - where i also managed to destroy a tallboy with the crossbow), experimented a lot with powers, did most secondary objectives, missed a few collectibles, in the end i still got the low chaos ending. The secondary objectives i finished seem to heavily counteract the killings. Spared only one target - the most significant story-wise.
Only had two slaughter sprees, one in the flooded city - where i had a full scale battle with 8 assassins or so, and one in the lighthouse fort, where i was cornered in a room by a horde of guardsmen.
I still enjoyed DXHR more; if i was to make a preferences list :
DXHR > Dishonored > Bioshock > Bioshock 2

It was either a bug or the pissing is part of the conversation event happening when you first encounter them. I didn't go down there when i first encountered them. So that might be why it didn't happen, but i loaded the autosave at the beginning of the level and it was all good.

You fucking assholes! After all I have done!
The game takes a big leap forward from the Boyle mission on. One of the few times I was blindsided in a game.
Spoiler concerning the Torturer:
Spoiler: | Was there a way to take him out without making a kill? I thought he was a major dick and killed him with a bolt to the face, but was there another option? |

Mister_s,
Spoiler: | You can just knock him out and still get the "Defeated the Torturer" in the stat screen. I'm not sure there is a special way to spare him. There is this maid in the kitchen that is afraid of him and is supposed to bring him some food, but stumbles and decides not to go down to his chamber. There is nothing you can do with the tray, though. |

Well it's still the second most selling game on Steam but yeah, not even remotely as gritty and faithfully gripping as the incoming Black Chops

Just finished it. Loved it, story was pretty weak but the gameplay is worth 9.5/10 for me. Ghosted every level but the first or second iirc.

Shame about sales ... can forget about sequel or anything similar in the near future.
