I haven't encountered any bugs yet. Only had about one freeze in 60 hours of play.

I've got a few soft freezes where an alien just took forever for it's turn. I've also got weird states in the UI, for example the game thought I was in grenade aiming mode but the UI didn't show it in any way and there was no aiming cursor. There's also the flickering terrain issue where the game can't decide which floor to display when you put your cursor on it. Also causes the click to go 50/50 on where your soldier ends up running to.
Lots of bugs, but it's great fun nontheless.

I've had the frozen turn stuff a lot in alien bases. I think the flickering of levels is because the mouse support is kind of awful. I tried with my 360 controller and it's all much smoother and works better, but its a chore playing with it. I lost a max rank sniper because it decided to misclick into a building instead of up a ladder

The modding scene is coming along pretty nicely, they've made some great advancements. Might see some good mods soonish.

I wonder why the enemy always gets a free move when spotted....maybe they should change that; drop the constant stacked enemy "cutscenes", and make them move around to begin with instead.
(i'm aware that some do atm.)

On the other hand, if they made the enemy move around the map, camping would become the best strat. The way it is now, you have to go explore, which is a good think I think.

So I was assaulting an alien base, and I wanted to capture the base commander. Unfortunately at this point i remembered that the guy who was carrying the arc thrower had died.
And since this new xcom crew looks like this
None of them can pick anything up from the floor, they have to be fitted with it before battle.
Which meant I had to kill the base commander, eventhough I could've captured him, only the arc thrower couldn't be picked up.
So far I think this is a poor mans X-Com, and I have been playing it for 50+ hours.

I despise games with "supposed" chance-range rolls.
~edit~
87% chance and I missed it SIX times in a row.

Seven times.

Eight.
~edit~
Nine. I've missed a "supposed" 87% chance to hit NINE times in a row now.

I also missed 92% stun chance 5 times in a row. I had to suppress the alien with MG fire, then it magically worked. Sometimes i think the game just presets the outcomes at the beginning of every new turn.

Did you reload?
Quote: | The random number seed is being preserved; like every other game in existence, this uses a "random" number generator that's not actually random. Civilization 5 worked the same way; if you wanted it to generate a new seed on a re-load, you had to explicitly turn on the option for that, because the default was to preserve the seed. In the case of XCOM, they don't WANT you just reloading until you get a turn where you hit on every attack and the AI misses on every one.
But if you really, really insist on cheesing your way through the game, there are two things to note:
1> Random numbers are generated in the order they're used. If you make a different number of attacks in your turn, then the AI's turn will turn out differently. You can use this to stack the deck, by saving the "good" rolls for the risky shots, and using the low rolls for attacks you don't care about.
2> Save at the START of your turn, not the end. Even if you can't manipulate the dice, you can make sure your players won't be in vulnerable positions. This might also change how the AI reacts, to where he might not even take the shot the second time. |

It does. You need to do something else, not just copy your moves.

Yes I reloaded but that bit about it not being random is bullshit, because on each reload the aliens change what THEY do, so sometimes they'll hit and sometimes they'll miss - as well as choosing different targets too. As for that "cheesing" - fuck that noise. If I miss a 95% chance, then damn right I'm going to reload.

Ignore the cheesing remark, i copied the answer for a different forum (so its not mine). Anyway, since i also reload from time to time, i advise you to do something differently. I usually change position (by 1 tile) or take a shot at a different enemy, and it seems to reset the %.

1. The enemy groups move around. Dont know about normal, but on classic they def do. Got flanked, they call for reinforcements, etc.
2. They go into cover when you trigger the cutscene because all your soldiers are already in cover. Dont you think that if they just stood there, it would be a bit unfair, you could gun them down easily. (No cover bonus, extra crit chance)
3. The random number seed gets saved too in the savegame. No matter how many times you reload, if you do the same things, the results will be the same. Use up the next random number with a different action, then try again.
Great game BTW, finished my first classic. Ironman mode is next.
edit: If you miss a 95% shot, reload, shoot with a different soldier, this uses up the bad roll in the seed that is saved, then back to the 95% shot.
A beer before dinner, makes you a winner.
Drink it before breakfast, then you're a sinner.

I usually quicksave at the start of my turn and if something goes really bad, i just reload and do the turn differently. |
I'm going to start doing that too. Thanks for the advice on forcing the seed to change, guys, I'll see if it improves the game
@Atyez
Yup, opposite for me - if an alien hits, and kills, one soldier and I reload the save? It may not even hit in this instance, or may choose a different foe, etc.
