That's just it JB.. they could have easily (relatively speaking, I mean) added all that - they could have made this the definitive version of D3 but they screwed it up. Just another quick cash grab... and for what purpose? $20 a sale? Hopefully they're just trying to drum up publicity and support for Doom 4 - but if this is how they treat Doom THREE then I hold no hopes for the fourth game
They've talked a lot about making up for the mistakes and such with Rage, focusing on the PC platform and all that but then this is released so like you said I guess things are a bit uncertain, here's hoping the game do manage to be at least somewhat like the so called leaked concept art.
(Or a re-imagining of Doom 2 or how it was planned.)
EDIT: Will be interesting to see how ID and Carmack responds to what the fans think about this release of Doom 3.
(And what support is planned.)
I think I'll just stick to my regular doom 3 with mods tyvm. Unless they decide to patch the fuck outta this with some new textures and better graphics there is really no point.

Are you running some third party program like Afterburner, apparently there's some compatibility issues there but it also seems mostly limited to the 3D functionality.
It's cool that No Rest For the Living (previously Xbox 360 exclusive Doom 2 Episode) is included in Doom 3 BFG Edition but I just played it and it's pretty ugly. You have virtually no video options and it's locked at 35fps.
My friend and I played and finished No Rest For the Living using GZDoom earlier this year and this is what it actually looks like:
Used NRFTL+.wad which was 3.7MB or so. It was actually really good.
It's unclear if this has worse textures (read: lower resolution, more compressed) or the new lighting makes them look worse, but what matters is how they look, and they look worse.

wow someone is angry. it's not making me want to install the mod.
Who is angry? The guy doing those comparisons on the BFG vs Sikk link? Personally I think he did himself, and the mod, a huge disservice by not increasing the gamma/brightness before taking the screenshots. All his screenies do is further reinforce the old hatred about D3; how ridiculously and unnecessarily DARK it is. I hated D3 for YEARS because of that.
Absolutely horrible on 360, and that FOV...
Also the idiot that recoreded the Xbox video is completely incompetent or used some really sub par equipment. No contrast, fucked up brightness. Fix those, and the Xbox version will look better overall. ID Software...

I started replaying Doom 3 last year but never got around to finishing it since I had to reformat. I will definitely finish it this year though. I tried playing it back in the day when it first came out but I couldn't enjoy its glory since i didn't have an awesome Geforce 6800. I was gaming with a Ti4200 (And I used that Ti4200 until Fall 2009)

Lighting the game up??? Id, seriously???
Derping the game for kiddies who can't handle being scared from time to time?
I'm not saying that the original game was really scary but it had its moments. I really remember this game with fondness because of how it could throw something in my face so that I would jump out of my chair.
Slender my ass...
Try playing Doom III with headphones on in the middle of the night...
Meeting the imp for the first time was priceless... You just hear: "Help me!"
More than half of those moments were great because everything was dark.
Also, if you turn off the lights in a closed box (which the whole complex actually is) it WILL be completely dark. So I see no reason to lighten the game up.
Like all of you guys say, Sikk Mod or Wulfen's High Res Textures with the original game beat the crap of this...
