I have to say, initial impression isn't very good. The quality of the dialog is very low. "Fuck this fuck that", "I'll rip your head off and shit in the hole" and so on. Even for a low fantasy tale, quality of writing so far is really bad. Low fantasy does not mean low-brow fantasy.
The retarded thing is the subtitles have little of the swearing. It's like they thought "Hmm USA people will play this so let's put more swears in the English dub to make them like it more".

Budget and time constraints most likely, focus is mostly on the main actors and then they make do with what they can for the rest of the voice acting, or well how to best say it.
(Same with general QA and polish as the above review notes.)
Hmm those are the two worst? I guess I've not thought about it or maybe I'm not very sensitive about these things, strange though I do focus mostly on the subtitles but I hear the dialogue as well, maybe I just didn't mind.
I'll have to try it again next time I'm playing having taken this into consideration.
Anyway about the script maybe like as you mentioned earlier they tried to make it sound cool to the target audience or well maybe intentionally wanted it to be a bit crude and humorous or simple, for an original IP where they had to make the entire story and setup themselves I'm not expecting anything special unless they say hired some quality writer to do it for them.
(They did Game of Thrones as well but there they had a lot to work with already, lots of established lore and tons of reference material available for use.)
I'm not sure, maybe I would have a bit more insight if I had followed the game more closely during development, all I've seen are the screenshots released so far.
(I can see how the game is by playing it of course but I didn't really have any expectations before doing so.)
jb when you finish it, let us know how much it took you, dont want to get it if its 10h or lower
edit maybe you wrote that in those huge posts but stopped reading them after saw some spoilers
Without the restarts done so far or just walking around and taking screenshots or testings things I'm a bit over a hour into the game near a encampment, from what I've read the early parts of the game are quite good but it rushes a bit after that so I'm a bit uncertain about how long it would take to complete it from playing normally, I'll see if I can find some info about it as it might be a while before I finish the game myself.
EDIT: It's described as taking around 20 hours to finish, in actuality it's often a bit shorter than this.
(An experienced player can probably finish it even quicker, which comes as a surprise to no one I guess, ha ha.)
EDIT: Right that big post, I described the introduction sequence that covers the first ten minutes or so of the game, maybe it was still too detailed.
(Much of it is also on their official website.)
ActControl is basically on par with Star-Force or Tages so it takes time to reverse engineer or otherwise bypass, I don't know the specifics but I do know they tend to be cracked but that it also takes a bit of time before it is done.
(That recent Testament of Sherlock Holmes game for example, same protection.)
EDIT: As the various teams (Or well, groups or such.) learn more about the protection the more of the games with this protection are cracked it also tends to go a bit faster, initially this protection was pretty enduring but once one of the games got cracked the others soon followed.
(Like those, what are they, some sort of loaders for SecuROM or Steam API now popping up mere hours after a game release in many cases.)
(Varies for different groups, I believe Theta more or less removes the Steam protection entirely whereas Reloaded and Skidrow use some bypass or loader, again I don't know the details very well.)
I've been somewhat busy with other titles released recently plus these days I'm not feeling that well so I don't play much, usually just browse the net or watch videos though I'm starting to feel better.
hmm shadows kills the game for me if put on high lol, ive got around 5-10 fps with them on high while on normal runs perfect; and its a huge improvement in term of graphics from game of thrones, looks like the engine from risen 2
