tungsten have you ever played any other mmorpgs?
EQ2 has barely any endgame content ,FFXI is good but to much of a grind and timesink a bit like EQ2 but more severe.
out of all the good mmorpgs wow is the most fun ,has the most depth and the best endgame content.
maybe you were unlucky and ended up on a server with idiots?
PVP servers are probably likely to have the most immature people
btw hack n slash isnt wow unless you think eq2 and ffxi are hack n slash aswell

How do you find FFXI? How quickly can you get "into" the actual fun part of the game, WOW takes around a few hours to level past level 5, I don't expect this from FFXI, but I certainly dont want to be doing unfun hunting for 10 weeks solid to still see no results..
I dont play WOW, I still pay for it, but I dont play it.. maybe its time I tried FFXI again?

It's graphics aren't great. I wouldn't go as far as to say it looks like shit though. I think it looks very functional - I never think to myself it looks bad graphically - and given it's scope, land, sea and air across a huge mass of terrain, I think it holds up on it's own. Honestly, doubters should check it out now that the new version has been released - it's very engrossing and you feel like you make an impact whatever you do (and it's great knowing that everybody and everything around you is human).

Well I just checked out the screenshots on the offical site, are these representative of that the game looks like in play? Because they look pretty good.
I'm just downloading a video now.
I must say, the idea of paradropping over enemy territory with 100 other people does appeal.

Yeah, those screenshots are representative (in fact they are made by the users of the game if I remember correctly). There aren't many special effects beyond lens flare and water shaders though.
You can actually download the game and play it offline in 'practice mode' if you like in order to get a feel for it. Practice mode does it no justice but if you wanted to see what the engine was like, fly the planes, drive the tanks (etc) you could give it a go.

Yes, it's mad, and night time battles are a bitch, especially on my dying monitor. You can also tail gun for bombers or be part of a crew in a tank. But just being a lowly infantry has it's moments.
It's £14 to buy the game outright, that gives you a free one month trial to decide whether it's the game for you and then it's a further £11 a month. I think that's reasonable, depending on your financial situation.
But you'll need that one month free trial because the game does have a steep learning curve. It's not the controls or any 'complications' as such but you have to gain a lot of experience before you can start killing people or acting on your own intiative. It's quite daunting, and everyone always feels disheartened to begin with - but it does eventually pass and you catch the bug soon enough.
Just don't go Axis, play Allies
Oh and read up on the forums - it has the negatives and the positives - but if you decide to take it up let me know.

Most people don't play WoW for 10+ hours a day.

Psh 10 hours? Are you serious? I played for 15+ easily. I once played for 45 or so hours without doing anything else. I made a documentary about WoW and all my friends playing it for my media class. I had a guild consisting of 50+ people I knew all playing it.

I remember we did this MASSIVE attack..... must have been a few hundry of us at once... tanks roaring up.. bombers overhead... light infantry everywhere... artillary getting pulled behind trucks up the road... fighters buzzing overhead...
Ahhhhh.. think i might have to buy it again
Buy the way.. the game is hardcore.. u cant just run and shoot kinda thing.. think of it as "real war" .... u get hit.. u die

Sorry? The direct support from Blizzard is outstanding for a company with as many customers as it has. I've sent 4 technical question emails and each has been returned promptly and with working resolutions. I think the guys at Blizzard do a great job for the amount of morons they have to deal with on a regular basis.

I think they were crap to be honest, the european launch of WoW was pathetic, with frequent downtime and lag, just like the american launch.
You think they would have learnt something from that.

maybe a little OT, but ive never understood why there are so many WoW/Blizzard 'cant do anything wrong' freaks; when there are blatant flaws in the game itself and the way blizzard launched the game and the customer service.
I too received completely sh*t support from them when i had an issue.

no mmorpg has ever been launched without lots of problems for the first few weeks or months.
and all mmorpgs have crappy customer support and the replys you get back half the time seem like they didnt even read your question in the first place.

lol.. about 10mins after posting this I hijacked the US technical support "chat service" which doesnt require you to have any sort of account (the only bit of support that doesnt..) I waited in a que for a while and eventually got onto a guy who helpped! My account is now re-activated and Im playing FFXI again..
This support was better than WOW's, but the bullshit to get an account re-enabled was totally stupid, and it wouldnt have happened with WOW.. so its 6 / 2x3 really .
So far im liking it, Im a lvl7 Red Mage, I found getting money easier in the begining than I do now, which is strange, I did get some great help when I was a low level 1, the community in this game is far nicer than in WOW, no annoying spamming kiddies either, however, there are no global chat area's! I dont find the mission/quests that great, there are few clear goals and the missions can be hard to find as there is no indication of who is giving them to you! I guess this could change later on? Right now I feel like the only thing in this game is killing monsters and leveling up... making money to BUY spells.. and ... well yeah.. Its a little limitted ! The advanced "jobs" (classes..) look very cool, but still, gameplay? where did you go?

I've never said they can't do anything wrong, I'm just exploring my experience with the company. The only smooth launch of a game I've ever deal with was Planetside, and even that was hardly 'smooth' really. I'm curious about all these in game flaws you all speak of. I personally never ran into a bug.

I assume the original poster meant FFXI and not FFIX. In which case WoW wins my vote.

Slightly more interactive? Are you on crack my friend.
Virtually every single player RPG has far more interactivity then WoW, but thats to be expected when you have a completely online world.
