It also had some of the worst writing the gaming industry has ever seen.

No, I'm saying that the writing in FO3 is so bad that even the writing in the games you mentioned is better. Yeah, I'd rather take soap opera crap like in ME3 than what FO3 (and/or Oblivion) has.

Well, I guess it's just a difference of opinion. FO3 hardly had logical storytelling, but I think that ME3's was even more directionless than FO3. Especially when you consider that FO3 is supposed to be about an open world as its main feature, whereas Bioware pushed the story so much in the ME series.

I enjoyed all the games set in the Fallout universe, even FO3 vanilla despite the streamlined gameplay/dialogues, so a Fallout 4 would make me a very happy panda. I'd be happier if Obsidian did it instead of Beth though.

That statement will haunt you for the rest of your days. Sure, we know, you hate/dislike FO3, perhaps because you're one of the "I luv FO1&2, they destroyed the franchise with 3".
We get it, you hate everything that use the gamebryo engine, you see yourself as a hardcore RPG player and think your opinion is worth more than any of those that like any game based on Gamebryo.
But you know what? Who cares? Go on playing your "true RPG's" and leave the rest of us to enjoy what we think are well designed games that give many hours of fun exploration.

Very much this Though I'll go a bit further; I fell in love with FO3 from the very first moment I played it, I absolutely adore the atmosphere, the audio, the exploration and even the combat was fun Then you throw in a cavalcade of modifications and suddenly the game ends up being even better! I've never really understood the bitter hate FO3 got, it still very much had that Fallout feel and character to it, the only difference was the shift from ActionPoints and isometric view, to.... um... ActionPoints and first/third person. The RPG mechanics were every bit as indepth as the first two games, the only thing that changed was the aspect and the fact that moving didn't cost AP.
You could play the game in FPS mode or you could play with VATS.
I understand that the gameplay shit annoys some of the older fans, I felt the same way about about Syndicate but at least FO3 still FELT like Fallout. It will always be in my short list of favourite games, due in no small part to that magnificent atmosphere .. something NV just doesn't have

That may be, it doesn't diminish the enjoyability of FO3/NV though |
Actually that's EXACTLY what diminishes the enjoyability.
With no F1/F2 I would probably consider a game like F3 as one of the best games and RPG of all times. But knowing that in some particular aspects, some things can be done better than they were done in F3/F NV, well, that set the value a bit lower.
Again, to be clear: we are talking about the highest level of enjoyability that one can have. And yes, indeed, F3 and F NV are really enjoyable but I would not position them at the highest level.

This. If OE hadn't gone on the Wild West theme road with NV and instead chosen the dark, grim and gritty atmosphere F3 had, it would've been an absolute bomb of a game. | But it WAS an absolute bomb of a game.
Fallout 3 had a MUCH better soundtrack though, and it saddens me how overlooked it was/is.
Both games came pretty close in making the New Fallout franchise surpass TES as my Nº1, but Skyrim helped it maintain it's title for now.
Still, probably the two only franchises in the industry for which I'll happily pay 40€ for.

No, you couldn't. And it's this that annoys me to hell and back; not only did they get rid of what was a perfect system, they replaced with this faux-optional system where one option just really doesn't work.
Sorry, but my aim is better than the game allows me to aim, VATS always gives far superior results because the game doesn't give a single shit about how good or bad your aim is.The FPS mode is just completely useless and should've been left out entirely. RNG + manual AIM = bullshit, that can just never work; the damage it does can differ, but it should not miss when I've got my barrel up someone's nose and the RNG decides "NOPE, FUCK YOU".
Rest of the game I'll leave in the middle, as atmosphere is something very personal and I know I disagree with many of you on this game. It had plenty of atmosphere alright, just not Fallout atmosphere as far as I'm concerned (it lacked the humour like I said, only trace amounts of it, and it's an entirely different style of post-apocalyptic than the original games).
I just went into FO3 expecting more of the same (it's a title I deliberately didn't see much of pre-release, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought it) and I didn't get it. Different atmosphere, different mechanics. Not bad, just different and it's that which put me off. NV I enjoyed a lot more, but only because I approached it as new IP.

The FPS mode was far from being excellent but the third-person view in FO3 was so horrible and crippling that it made the fps view shine in comparison and the only way to play the game.

i agree, but it's not really a fair comparison
it's not the same genre
there was an isometric turn based mod in development for F3 for some time but i don't think they ever finished it

The Fallout 3 from Black Isle was codenamed Van Buren and was never finished. A tech demo is available at NMA Fallout.

Was thinking about picking this game up since I never played through any of the DLC earlier on and all I did was beat the original part when it was released
However I had one huge gripe with Fallout 3, the armor system was absolutely terrible. Since they went for a %reduction you would take damage from a 9mm while you were wearing power armor which was total bullshit.
My question is if anyone know of a mod that changes how damage/armor works so that it resembles fallout 2 or even new vegas instead? A mix of Vegas + Fallout 3 would pretty much be Fallout 1/2 system so if that exist i'd be happy for a link.
I have searched the nexus but difficult to search with the word "armor" and not just get a billion new models and armors

Yes there should be but i'm not gonna spend money on the game till I can find such mods. And I can't bare playing through the game with the crappy default system either
