i was curious about this too
i'm pretty much starting with guitar, few months in and i can only play a couple of songs and know the basic chords (f maj is hard as hell for me though.. fkin barre)
i think my progress rate is pathetic for the amount of time i've had the guitar but i'll be honest i fall out with it often, will this benefit me?

The RocksmithNoCable3.exe works great. You can use anything to play the game, as long it picks up sounds. It can be a different cable, it can be a microphone, it doesn't really matter : if it picks up sound, it works. (Or at least, in my personal tests it works 100%)
(Just make sure you disable every other input source except for the one you're using, otherwise the game will bug during the intro videos)
As for whether the game itself actually works/helps people and how much you need to know before playing :
You don't need to know *anything* at all. And I really mean, nothing whatsover.
With that said, the game is great at helping you play the guitar, but not so much at *teaching* you guitar.
Just so this is clear : the game does make you play the real songs (or close enough) and you can play the songs on your own if you actually learn them.
It's just that the game won't really teach you anything outside of playing the songs. The game is very limited in tips and has no lessons to speak of.
It's amazing fun and a GREAT practicing tool, something I'd recommend to anyone learning how to play guitar. For someone also looking to learn more about guitar (or music in general), how to play the proper, etc, I'd also recommend finding guitar lessons online. The game would not, on its own, be enough.
(The first place I'd start would be http://www.justinguitar.com/)

If that thing works you can connect Line-In , you just need a jack adapter 6.35mm to 3.5mm

This is some separate crack from the Tinyiso release? I might give it a try with my Pod X3 if you don't indeed need the proprietary cable.

I'd love to use this, but plugging into a line in port robs my tone. No tone = no fuckin' way. I haven't been playing guitar and building up my equipment collection for over twenty years to let it go to waste.
Plus, I already know how to play Smoke on the Water and House of the Rising Sun
Hobo Zombie: TRAAAAAAAIIIINNNNNNSSSSSS
Woman Zombie: COMPLAAAAAAAIIIIIIINNNNNSSSSS
Englishmen Zombie: REFRAAAAAAAAAIIIIIINNNNNSSSSS
Thanks for the idea Lutz!

Yes, separate crack. I simply dropped it in the game folder and use it to launch the game instead of the original crack I used.

None yet, currently waiting to see if people who bought DLC on PC start sharing them so they can be unlocked.

The game is about learning how to play guitar , would be kinda pointless to play it on keyboard isn't it ?
And a guitar have 132-144 keys.. so would be kinda impossible on a keyboard.

got it to work finally but now i have another issue, the game is only registering the first few notes from a track and after 30 seconds it is not registering anymore while i can hear i play the right notes. anyone else with this problem?
and how can i change the difficulty because i`m a skilled guitar player and do not want to play one single note in 10 seconds!?

If it stops listening (you hear yourself playing but you don't hear anything in the game) it's usually due to heavy interference on your cable. Either the pickup is sending a noisy signal or you have a bad cable.
For me it was the jack adapter. if i plugged the cable directly on the motherboard the cable adapter would touch the MB and i could hear alot of static, and usually Rocksmith stopped recognizig the guitar until i plugged the cable in and out. I solved the problem plugging the cable in my case front panel, no interference and rocksmith picks the signal really good now.
If you want to check your signal quality, plug the guitar in, go into windows sound managment open your line in or microphone settings and turn on the "listen to this device" if you hear alot of noise even if you are not playing you have to find a better cable/guitar/connector etc.

it is not the cable or jack, just tried it what you suggest. but in rocksmith i can hear the guitar when i strum but it`s just not registering it, and only after about 30 seconds of a track, so in the beginning it works flawless. strange issue, maybe i need the real tone cable after all. i have a line6 toneport ux1

I also tried the nocable exe, and don't know what other people's problems are, but for me there is some kind of over-time feedback buildup, that eventually makes the game unplayable, since the mic just won't pick up the strings over all the static. I tried using headphones to get rid of every single possible noise pollution, but after a single song I can't even get past the pre-song tune-check because there is just too much static. It starts out perfectly, registering every strum, then after a while it goes to hell in a handbasket.
