Quote: |
A dwarven prince on a quest to reclaim his people’s old country takes the player on a journey through a continent, uncovering the buried mysteries of the Great War. With a combination of strategy and management, the player rules their settlements of dwarves, having them explore the earth and utilize its resources.
The gameplay consists of ordering the inhabitants of a dwarven settlement to dig, build and conduct research in order to strengthen the clan, whilst defending themselves from the terrible beasts from the depths into which they delve. The game generates a unique world each time a new level starts, making sure that the player needs to dynamically adapt their strategies and tactics during a session.
As the player advances, the dwarves will level up and gain new skills, progressing from weak dwarflings to near immortal warriors or master craftsmen. There are also rare resources to be found deeper in the earth that grant access to better buildings and equipment. However, the deeper you dig the more dangerous foes you might unleash…

I'm thinking it looks a bit more Dwarf Fortress than Dungeon Keeper but we'll see I guess.

Get your hands on that book that came out a while back ("Getting Started with Dwarf Fortress: Learn to Play the Most Complex Video Game ever Made"). I bet there is a pdf floating around. It has pretty much everything you need, it's an entertaining read and a great resource for every new player.

Quote: |
The Ale Pack is designed to bring more happiness to the daily lives of Dwarves. Because after all, what is a Dwarf without beer?
The Ale Pack provides your settlement with the legendary Ale Tree and Mead Barrel. Never again will your Dwarves need to brave the deep underground with dry throats.
A drunken Dwarf is a happy Dwarf, and a happy Dwarf is a productive Dwarf.
Mmmm, aaaale.
|
Ale, the usually main drink for fantasy Dwarfs is a DLC?
EDIT: Ah so it's not quite like that.
Quote: |
The Ale Tree – A crop of Dwarven legend and proof of their ingenious idea of extracting ale directly from certain trees. Having a worker extract ale from the Ale Tree provides the settlement with Happiness. It can be found in the Special Crops category where it only waits to be built.
The Mead Barrel - What is the second best thing after drinking mead? Having it stand around in barrels of course! Having a couple of Mead Barrels as decorations is a great way to increase your settlement’s happiness. Build them from the Mixed Decorations category and give your Dwarves a proper living environment.

DLC should be included with purchase, not sure why GG has it listed separately.

Barely an hour in myself, but so far it gets a big meh from me. Definitely not 'the graphical dwarf fortress'. Feels more like a multi-leveled dungeon keeper, just...worse.

Completed both tutorial levels and half way thru on a next one. Probably won't finish it, game gets very boring. For me it's like a very slow paced Dungeons, here you need to spam decoration objects too
Also, it's very tiresome to eyeball floors/bridges without some kind of blueprint overlay.

If you have any excess resources (like wood) you can sell them off. It's on the same screen as the dwarf recruitment button I believe.
I think this game has potential, but it just isn't pulling me in. It looks good, runs smooth, and most of the UI design is solid enough ... but the digging is awkward (needs a 2D blueprint view or something) and I got pretty bored halfway through the "Trial" mission in the campaign -- which is the first thing you do after the tutorial.
I want to like it. But I don't think I really do. I'll give it a fresh shot after a few content patches, see what it looks like then.
