|

Man, talk about an instant and surprising death
the drive was in perfect condition in all benches i ran periodically. i was torrenting x-files season 3 HD when it said "disk io error" on utorrent. restart PC, shit won't boot until i unplug the drive.
Gone is the whole RPG gog library, every piece of music from john coltrane,Captain beeheart, frank zappa, the stooges, alice coltrane, Miles Davis, and on and on.
gonna need to always have 2 backup hardrives for emergencies from now on lol, thats if I ever reclaim the 4+ years of goodness I had stored since my last hard drive died and I said the same thing im saying now.
And then I realized, most of it is within my grasp 24/7 online now. The internet has progressed so much, that local storage is becoming pretty archaic in a sense.
TLDR: fuck hard drives anyways.

So how many gigs of data did you lose?
I deleted about 400GB of .iso's the other day, for the same reason you gave.. "The internet has progressed so much". If I ever want to play them in the future I can just download them again.
Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms

You can try and change the pcb plate in it for the same model. The data shouldn't be fucked up.

I lost around 200gb, which I know isn't much for many people today, but i'm still on wd raptors gen 2, and for backup I had a cheaper and slower regular WD 7200rpm.
The other backup is a seagate 7200.10 so no chance of backplate reuse.
Ill be getting a 1tb drive soon and then still keeping the aging raptor as an OS+played games main drive until it dies and I can afford a proper replacement for it, not some storage mid range HDD.
Its basically just an inconvenience and a timewaster, not a permanent loss. its not like anything I had was one of a kind in the world, although some is tough to find.
It will lighten up my pressure of seeing the huge backlog of games at once all the time

Pfft! 200GB now are like 200GB ten years ago for me
If I didn't have the backup I'd still be cursing at all the invisible divinities out there
