as ive metionned before ive had insomnia. I went for almost 12 days with no sleep. its awful, i couldnt tell if i was seeing things or hearing things or if it was real or not, after the first week i had severe headaches and the doctor said if i didnt see sleep in the next few days i could end up with either serious mental problems or even brain damage. After another 2 days went by i was losing the plot, i was seeing things move, i was hearing music playing like i had headphones on allthough i knew i hadnt, i felt dizzy all the time and occasionally felt like i was floating. Your body cannot possibly last a year, afeter like 10 days you start halucinating very scary things, for me it was movie objects, even my own father hitting me with a bat when i knew he was on a buisness trip, its crazy shit, you close your eyes for a few seconds and then realise your only dreaming, but then it happens again hours later, its crazy. My advice is dont do it, its dangerous

They're also becoming more and more accepted in America (called 'power naps' over there). |
lol 6 hours...well, if u can nap during the day, more power to ya

That sounds kinda cool tho if u can control it...aside from headaches and stuff, the tripping part sounds fun, like an acid trip.

As far as I know the longest any healthy person has stayed awake for is 19 days, although that record may have been broken by now.
Yes, humans can die from sleep deprivation, but only if they have full cognition during the deprived period. For example, people who suffer from chronic colestites, can go without REM sleep for years, but only because they are in an almost constant state of semi-consciousness.
A normal human would, in theory, die after approximately 2 months due to lack of neurotransmitter hormones, which are usually replenished during sleep. Although obviously there have been no direct studies on this, in studies carried out on rats, they died after about 2 weeks of sleep deprivation.

Yep. Simply put, you're brain would fry. Not good for ya.
Also, as Watergem touched on, you can experience psychosis if deprived for long enough.
A few months back, didn't get enough sleep, ws watching Wimbledon and percieved the net to be moving up and down. A mildly interesting experience.
Never gone more than about 40 hours without any sleep

i sleep more than i'm awake... i think max for me was about 52 or so....
however i have seen junkies who stay up for 5+ days easy... obviously they are taking a shortcut to death, but they are awake non the less...
i rather not mess with my body, i work about 16 hours a day, sleep 8 or 14 work 10 sleep

The longest time i've been up is like 50 hours ...
Damn I felt so tired that I don't even want to recall it how bad it was
Also smoking if you've been up for a long time kills your body much faster.. but after a two day you can even looks at cigs.
After that i hit the sack for something like 10 hours and woke up freshly
