http://www.tunngle.net/community/topic/106861-borderlands-2-windows-8-update-6-v113-fix/

Tested with Borderlands 2 and Slleeping Dogs. Both perfect on Win8 64bit
author says the fix will work on any Skidrow budda cracked games, so far I believe him

Just install the game as normal + updates if any and Skidrows crack - them add the files from the post above. Im sure Skidrow will probably start adding a win 8 version of their cracks in the future but till then there is a fix available

I can't seem to run THETA's releases. Different redists (2005, 2008, 2010), directx, drivers have all been installed. The games I've downloaded in particular are Retro City Rampage and The Adventures of Shuggy.
Rampage manages to get in-game, but it crashes as soon as I press Enter in the very first message it displays. Shuggy outright spits in my face an error message only stating it has crashed.

Don't know. I'll revert to the trusty Win7 which runs everything without a hiccup. I don't mind the new UI (I've quite easily gotten accustomed to it). I'll wait a few good months before getting back to it. Maybe lots of these issues will have been ironed out by the crackers by then. I simply don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Installed XNA 4.0 Refresh and Shuggy is a go. Rampage still crashes. Tried installing XNA 3.1 but it requires .NET 2.0 despite the OS having 4.5 at default.

They are not fully backwards compatible, there's a addon-on pack for Windows 8 where it will configure and install a .Net 3.5 package but I don't remember how I got that.

EDIT: Aha.

JBeckman, can you run Rampage on Win8? I'm starting to think it's the game itself that's not compatible...

Yes I've been using Windows 8 since August when the RTM came out, aside from some problematic early drivers I've not encountered any major issues.

No compatibility issues either aside from that Buddha.dll thing with Skidrow's releases but there's a workaround for those now. Smile

Anyway this game works just fine for me. Smile
(Usually it's about keeping the redistributable files updated, DirectX June 2010, VC++ 2005, 2008, 2010 SP1 variants and also 2012 now, OpenAL setup if needed and then the XNA 3.1 refresh and 4.0 installers.)

(In addition to system drivers and general updates for the OS, I upgraded stuff several times each week although it's now gradually starting to slow down.)

Definitely an X-file. Installed everything that whirled around in my mind even for a fraction of a second, and no luck. Sad

I moved because it gave me an option to legalize all my computers for 30 €. You can move from XP, Vista or Win7 to Win 8 Pro for just 30 € if you use Windows 8 upgrade assistant. Nice move from MS on this one.
