shame. I want a case with 3 decent fans. There is no point getting a case with included fans and dusting them

Almost every case has pretty crap stock fans. Silverstone uses their Air Penetrator fans in their cases which are very good.

btw.
When I installed everything last month, the installing cpu into motherboard was kinda weird.

I have never seen lga 1155 before so someone correct me if this is right.

When I installed 2500k into that asrock mobo, the socket squeek'd and was VERY tight. Almost like I was damaging something. I did it several times (without cooler - cooler was applied only once after I was sure cpu is inserted correctly not to waste thermal grease)
and I was doing it right. triangle facing the right way, lowering the handle and it really required a looot of pressure to lower that handle all the way down+ the squeezing sound. I did not bended any pins or nothing, because I opened the socked couple of more times, just to get sure.

edit: whatever -youtube videos are the same with the same grinding noise so I guess 1155 just does that

Offcourse everything worked first try and booted just fine (once I borrowed gpu, mine is dead). The question is -does all 1155 sockets do that?

also. I have big cooler for 1156 socket. it should be compatibile with 1155 right ?

My temps on stock cooler and stock speeds on that 2500k are 36-37C when browsig with chrome

Yes, the bracket sits really tight on LGA1155, so you shouldn't have to worry. Motherboards are extremely durable anyway.

Another question - this time really lame: about motherboard drivers.

That's the 64bit download site for my motherboard
http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?cat=Download&os=Win764&Model=P67%20Pro3

It lists Drivers and Utilities. I guess I don't want any of those utilities right ?

From the drivers - I've installed:
-Realtek high definition driver - but new version from realtek site. 2.7 instead of 2.51 aviable on the asrock site
-inf driver from that site. Couldnt find any newer
-Intel management engine - Installed it from asrock site. Don't know what it is tho...
-Realtek Lan driver from asrock site
-Intel Rapid storage technology - installed from intel site. I have system installed with ahci mode enabled in Bios, so this is important right ? It enables ncq ? intel driver site sucks and I am not sure if I found proper driver in newest version
-and etron USB3.0 controller.

In UEFI - I've disabled those (So i don't get unknows devices):
-Intel rapid start (well it is disabled by default anyway)
-Intel Smart connect - I don't need this right ?It is enabled in uefi by default

I also don't need anything with raid in name right ? AHCI is enough for me. I only have 1tb wd new hdd. it supports ncq so I want ahci.

edit: yes, i reinstalled win7x64 after changing from ide mode to ahci mode
edit: Other question. I've tried overclocking on stock cooler today. Got to 4,2 on first try. notmore than 1.3 voltage. Ram voltage was 1.59 by auto, but I changed it to 1,5v since my 1333 kingston ram is rated at 1.5v.
It works. no problems. Prime gets my cpu to 90C after a couple of minutes tho Razz (below 40 on default).
I can use this:
http://www.silentiumpc.com/spartan-he923/?lang=en
Or should I just get Macho/closed water loop

Thread hijack!

Did anyone tried DDR3/1600MHz modules declared at 1.65V on B75 boards with Ivy processors? I'm thinking about upgrade and I'm looking at a i3 Ivy + B75 + 2 x 4GB Kingston HyperX @ 1600/1.65V but back in the day, 1.65V for memory was a no no for Sandy processors. How is this going on Ivy CPUs, do they support 1600 MHz RAM only if it's working at 1.5V?

Yeah.

Haven't seen many 1.65v modules around to be honest. When I was scouting for a new set when my Corsairs died (well, one of the modules anyway) all modern DDR3 sticks were 1.5v. I ended up selecting 2x4 G.Skill Ares LP 1600 (LP = low profile since my heatsink makes it difficult to put a stick in the first slot with any medium sized RAM-heatsink), set them to 1866 in BIOS and haven't looked back. Voltage for RAM is on Auto and I think they're running @ 1.52v or something.

So in the end, sorry, can't help the thread-hijacker since I have neither Ivy Bridge nor 1.65v modules.

It was completly opposite for me month ago.

Most 1600 and up sticks were 1.65

I HAD TO GO 1333mhz to fins a good kingston 1.5v stick

Looks great Crock! what do you mean that the gpu is connected to the chassis? the lil screw on the left or something im missing lol?

Might have about 260ish euros for an upgrade myself soon. Would a 2500k be a big improvement over a first generation i5-750?

I would want to get a 2500K and a decent overclocking board. Dont need ram or any other stuff just cpu/board. Any reccomendations? Seeing as I cant find the 2500K's for less than 195 here doesnt leave a whole lot for the board.

edit: typo

As far as I know 2500k is still the best cpu out there. There are faster cpus there, but not by much and not noticble in games too much.

GPU, not cpu. The graphics card is connected to the chasis by a black wire. Look near gpu power cables and 5inch tray.
That 7870 is 27cm long and is heavy as fuck. It was bending under its own weight.

The system still works great but I get plenty of coil whine/ electrical noise in first 20, 30 minutes before pc gets warm. I can hear hdd, cpu, gpu operations amplified as electric noise. Kinda annoying but goes away

ah yeah I see it now. how does that work, did it come with the case or is it a universal thing?

I have the same when I use my usb headset, although all the time lol. fine on normal sound though.

if im able to sell this 1156 board+i5+ram I might be able to get a board and 2500k. longshot though, and really wondering if its worth it, I mean if its like a 20% increase over a 750 ill just wait a year and upgrade when we all run hectacores lol

the coil whine is shielded by case and doesnt get thru the speakers/ headphones like it did with my old case.

2500k should work on 1556 board. why sell it ?

2500k is a 1155 cpu not 1156. 1156 is a now pretty much defunct socket. was told there are no more boards in production(and havent been for a while) except for some intel server boards.

and problem is I need a new motherboard, 1156 motherboards are pretty much impossible to get here. none available retail and maybe see one in a blue moon 2nd hand , let alone a sli board. so if i can sell this for a decent price then add few cash of my own i could get a decent(ish) board and 2500K.

Ha! Finally found this thread after all the investigation! Aww Yeah

How big is that Arcric i30? I mean, does it block RAM slots? (Probably not, but just want to make sure. Razz)

It's relatively small, that's what I liked about it. It does what other coolers do, while it is smaller. As for RAM slots being blocked, that's dependent on your motherboard.

After all those months I have finally both a cooler, and I'm glad I didn't go for Arctic Freezer i30. Not that it's bad - it's probably very good; the thing is, it just wouldn't fit. Very Happy

Thankfully, I had read HardOCP's review before buying one. Otherwise, I would just end up like in the picture below because my mainboard has almost exactly the same spacing.

Instead, I've bought Freezer 13 (the regular one; not PRO), mounted it on the CPU (installation is incredibly easy) and... everything's fine! Smile Temps are low, noise level even lower.

Therefore, everyone with Asus or Gigabyte's* mobo who's looking for good cooler, pay attention to the size if all your DIMM slots are occupied.

*these seem to have the narrow spacing between CPU socket and RAM slots
