Quote:

Sui Generis is an open world RPG for the PC featuring ground breaking technology and innovative gameplay.

A believable world. Carefully designed and researched so it feels authentic down to the smallest detail, a living world that makes sense and functions independently of your incursions into it.

Complete freedom of choice. Choose your approach and devise your own cunning plans. Advanced AI and a hugely interactive game world are capable of supporting almost anything you can think of.

Deep customisation. Sui Generis has no classes and no levels. Gain powers and train skills to develop unique builds and play styles in a hugely dynamic environment where there are many paths to success.

Advance with a purpose. Advancement in Sui Generis allows you to do new things and change how you play. The world won't advance with you, you will learn to face ever greater dangers and more daring feats.

Revolutionary gameplay. Take control of physical forces in a realistic simulation with spectacular and always unique results. Experience lifelike battles in which your wits and skill matter most.

Uncover secrets. A setting and history developed over the course of many years offer countless secrets and mysteries that have deep, meaningful connections. Will you be able to piece it all together?

It looks hilarious is what it looks like. That "real physics!" stuff? Just looks like a couple of drunk chavs having a scrap, look at the characters staggering and swinging stupidly all over the place

The detail and lighting is nice.. and the IDEA of real physical combat sounds great, but so far it just looks silly.

Really? I think it's really impressive at the core. And real fighting looks hilarious, not pretty, imho.

There's nothing impressive about the combat in the video I posted, they just look drunk and silly, but egh... horses for courses.

having fighters flailing wildly at each other is definitely different, and could actually be fun, as long as they fix walking looking like QWOP.

I don't think it's meant to represent two skilled fighters. The "impressive" thing is the technology - and I assume that skilled players would make it look much better.

Anyway, I think it looks very promising - but we need a lot more than just an innnovative combat system.

Aye, that's it.. it has the QWOP look about it. The engine is gorgeous, as is the lighting and detail, though the objects don't seem to have any weight even though the collision physics look nice. I like what I see in regards to the engine and ideas, I just don't like the flailing drunken combat.. that's all.

It's pre-alpha, it looks amazing considering. It's great at its core, it just needs fixing.

Impressive yes! Hmm I guess we all got overused to Hollywood style awesome battles, but instead of using some plastic weapons try wearing heavy plate armour and swing some long sword and you prolly look as ridiculous as the chars in the vid.

Edit: Backed £ 20.

Yeah the physics-based fighting looks pretty weird, but hats off to one guy coding the lot of it by himself. I really like the look of the rest of the engine. I chucked in 10 quid in the hopes that if it manages to get funded that they'll add a toolset at some point. Seems like there would be lots of neat stuff to play around with in it (whatever actual game they end up making would be completely irrelevant - more a bonus than anything else).

Yes, thats right. But it will make you and your enemies look like complete noobs throughout the whole game.

Combat and engine looks great. They also share my view that the player should create his own story as he plays.

I think it's quite impressive, they just need to speed up those animations a bit and it's perfect Smile

Open world RPG + massive customization and freedom of choice + proper physics for combat = Do_want_level=98% Razz

it definitely needs fixing, and i would say it needs more fixing than a £150k project can deliver. hopefully its just gonna be a tech demo 'game', following which a big studio picks up the engine and makes an awesome game.

dungeon siege 4 'with real drunken flailing combat' anyone?!

? they've come a really long way with 0 funds, i can only imagine how much better it can get with £150k... the world creation tool alone seems pretty incredible. The game is nothing like DS except for the perspective.

It saw a big spike in funds after getting some attention on the likes of RPS the other day -

http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/1473965863/sui-generis/#chart-daily

If it can get a bit more attention, it might manage to make it over the line.

It really shows how crucial media exposure is. You really need a famous dev or some fancy gimmick that gives you sustained presence on game websites to bring in the big bucks.

The devs should also send over their alpha tools/etc to someone like TotalBiscuit. Say what you want about the guy himself, but he has serious clout and a "WTF" from him can bring in a massive audience to the project.

Yeah but on the other hand he did a vid for Interstellar Marines a couple of days ago. And his paraphrased words: "It looks like a skeleton."
