Well, I don't want to be cold or anything, but that was 99% mother's fault. Yes, the driver should be careful around the crossing area, but a mother (with a 3 year old child FFS! that fact alone should have made her 200% more careful) should look twenty times before crossing the road. Seriously. She shouldn't have walked out of that car, there was nothing the driver could have done. I was in a similar situation myself and I almost hit a drunkard that basically spawned before me (he was crossing the street on a red light though).
I wonder what the court said about this. The mother didn't even look before crossing the road.

In Sweden we have a law that we HAVE to stop at every walk-crossing if there's people. It's the drivers responsibility to have a view of the situation. Besides, that car was obviously speeding, completely oblivious to anything, perhaps drunk. In this case it was 100% the drivers fault no matter what. If you come to a crossing and the car on your front right is standing still, you brake. This asshole just came so fast out of nowhere.
