but at times it feels a bit like exploiting flaws in the game mechanics
Exactly. And that was another of the big problems present in the game, the exploitability of some absurd situations. Hitman 2 had some of those as well but they weren't as prominent. One of those made me laugh a lot, if you wanted to have "all zeros" in the final stats of one of the missions you had to do a "Morpheus" with a samurai sword to a Colonel rolling in his limo. Neat kill it was, if you're into the Matrix
The problem was the game being exploitable, it didn't actually force you to exploit it. I mostly avoided doing it but there were so many glitches that sometimes you had to do some ridiculous stuff in order to progress.

So in other words then, it didn't actually force you to "go Rambo mode" at all
Yeah I probably worded it wrongly. In that video that Sedolf posted the guy actually managed to enter the bunker without the guards reacting to him. Many people (judging by what I read in some forums), including myself, weren't able to approach them without them reacting to you (no matter what your disguise was). They wouldn't shoot at me on visual contact but trying to slow walk pass them triggered the violence. I had no problem stealthing my way up to that part but this stupid bug forced me to change my approach if I wanted to finish the mission.
The worst part of it is that I cleaned the bunker and left a pile of bodies, and still I managed to make my way to the aerodrome undetected and uncontested Yet another of the several inconsistencies in the game.
But like I said, I enjoyed it nevertheless, it's still a game that feels different from most games released till then and since then.
Man that one was tough, pretty much impossible to do without your cover getting blown. Atleast for me.
Also there was the level with the birthday party with the clown and the playboy bunnies and the treehouse that you could snipe from, and the one in russia in the subway thing, and the one in the mental hospital or whatever that was, and the one one at the slaughterhouse, and the one at the masked ball with the devil assasin/underground club, and the one in moscow where you had to get on top of a tower to snipe a guy meeting with another guy in the park. And the one in the opera where you had to assasinate the singer, which you could do by changing his prop gun for a real one, and a vip guest. And the one in the hotel with the swimming pool and the sauna (where you had to climb from balcony to balcony to get to the room with the guard in front of it. This sure has been a great franchise.
Glad someone got a scan to confirm PC Gamer review. Just emailed GMG to cancel my preorder. Wanted to play a Hitman game, not some stealth action game loosely based on Hitman with a severe case of consolitis.
So you base your opinion on a magazine that gave Dragon Age-2 94?
Don't get me wrong Hitman: absolution may well indeed be a bad game but until you see for yourself, by playing the "demo" or by hearing what other gamers (that you respect their opinion) have to say, basing your decision on a review of a "gaming" media (for that matter any gaming media IMHO) is a bad idea. With this logic would you have paid a full price for DA-2?

It's one guy's opinion who works for a not so well respected magazine. And that's enough for you to decide the game's shit?
A game can be good while it isn't your thing. So even if a game is good,it doesnt mean you should automaticly buy it. Some things are just kinda facts, not just someones opinion. If a reviewer says "All you do is go from door to door and wait for a cutscene to happen" it is not really an opinion, rather something that actually happened and bothered him. Yeah a game cannot be judged unless you've played it yourself, but a site like imdb, to me, is trustworthy. I dont watch movies that have a rating below 7. Because usually, the movies that do, arent that good. There are always trolls, and retards who's opinion should not be taken into consideration, but sometimes peoples opinions can say alot about if a game is actually good. But this is AFAIK the first review, so there is still a bit of hope. Gonna try it anyway though.
Is Hitman: Contracts the game to get if you havent really played the series (i have no intentions of playing the whole series)? It seems to have better AI and some other improved things compared to Blood Money..? Basicly i want: 1) good/decent A.I 2) open-ended gameplay and level design.

I'll have to disagree with you on this point.
Even 'facts' can sometimes be twisted. For example: "Hitman: Blood Money bothered me a lot, all you do in this game is kill a bunch of targets and then the game is over."
You see what I did there? I took a fact (indeed you kill a bunch of targets and after the last target you kill the game ends) and ignored all the "interesting stuff" that happen in between.
Also its obviously a gross exaggeration and I say only based on what I've seen so far on youtube videos (check the "streets of hope" playthrough mission). Of course I don't have any way to know for certain how the rest of the game plays...
Indeed, you're right. But like you said it is a fact that you do kill a bunch of targets and that the game ends after you kill the last one. If that bothers a reviewer, its his opinion, but it is still true, even though his opinion is worthless at that point lol. But its not the opinions I care about, its the facts about the game that are stated, that I care about. Like a cople of pages back, some reviewer complained about the lack of being able to save, and how the checkpoint system sucks. He brings it to my attention that this game does not have the possibility to save wherever, the question is, is it going to bother me. If it doesn't, who cares if it bothers the reviewer. But the fact still remains, you arent able to save. If a reviewer says, most of the important kills are done through cinematics, that would suck. Unless ofcourse he's lying/stupid and it is not true.
But that stuff aside, the streets of hope stuff, and the other gameplay vids I've seen looked pretty awesome and open world-ish. So yeah...we'll see.

I think you meant Hitman: absolution and not 'contracts' (which I didn't like so much)
I never thought that knowing the story arc in the hitman games was important in order to enjoy the games (more important to me was the narrative of the story in the games).
You can check wikipedia for the plot it pretty much says it all I think.
regarding open ended gamplay from my impression so far (based on what people are saying in the console section) it is. regarding AI I don't know much but if it was bad I think people would have mentioned it already since in games like this bad AI sticks like a sore thumb.

No i meant contracts, but i might consider this one as well later on. Read through some posts about Blood Money vs Contracts and a lot of people seems to prefer Contracts because it has better A.I + some other things are improved as well.
