Well played SP a little, and i have to say in all honesty, that the engine actually feels quite fluid (atleast from SP perspective, donno about MP yet..) Neutral

Treyarch defends Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 engine

Treyarch has defended its use of the seven-year-old engine being used to power CoD: Black Ops 2, saying “It runs at 60 and it’s gorgeous. What exactly is there to be upset about with the engine?

http://www.vg247.com/2012/10/10/treyarch-defends-call-of-duty-black-ops-2-engine/

Haha what a nutter....

“And we can make it beautiful – that’s through years and years of working with the engine, improving upon it and improving the pipeline and improving our approach, our lighting rendering.”

And it's still not a touch on Frostbite 2. This guy is living in cuckoo land if he thinks his low resolution textures in BO2 are "beautiful". But lets not talk about the recycled sounds (granted some slightly altered) or the almost carbon copy of last years release...

I'm all for nice new FPS to get my teeth into but this is nothing more than DLC, £9.99 at best !

I own MW2, BO1 and MW3 on Steam (other CoD's are dodgy copies) and all three of these games to me just feel like map packs. Hell MW3 actually looks worse than MW2 if the graphics are set to max :/ (I know your to set something to normal in the options that I can't remember of the top of my head to stop it looking so blurred) but still....

I'm still very much enjoying BF3. I've nearly 500 hours on it now but that's only because I'm currently not allowed to work due to a work related accident.

For me the graphics, sound and game play is far superior than the CoD games (each to their own here) but I'll be damned if I'm paying nearly forty quid for an almost carbon copy of last years game...

played all cods, had a lot of fun back in the good old lan times with cod, cod:uo and of course first modern warfare. even bought the second one, although my asia key got revoked after a few weeks (played alteriw later on a bit). but now i couldnt stand the reuse of everything anymore. sure mw was fresh that time and really awesome.best game if you only had like 15-30 min time to play sth. but new cods? mäh, maybe if they finally change the engine, god its 2012 and not 2008 anymore. and of course the playerbase even on pc is bad, too many 12year old derpbox kiddies. jesus im getting old...

Wow.. ok.. lets pretend for a moment the game is gorgeous. I personally dont give a fuck about texture quality. Why is every god dam map in call of duty so small? WHY?

anyone know why i can't get rid of the borders? doesn't matter which resolution i choose.

this usually happens when i choose 1920x1xxx and as such i just go with a lower resolution but here it does nothing.

the only way i can get a full screen is when i choose borderless window but that lower the resolution even more.

Ok I just played the first two missions. I have to give them that the graphics are actually pretty good for the jurassic engine they're still using and... it runs flawlessly at +100fps all maxed out. Good textures also mostly. However the gameplay is as shit as ever. Oh well, at least Treyarch fixed the annoying "friendly AI player pushes me around and interrupts my shooting" crap. Also, they decreased the number of QTE and just let the game do most things for you in a "cinematic" way Cool Face

The story is "meh" so far, I guess it'll have the usual twist later on. Good acting voices, just like first Black Ops.

At least there's a bit of win with Tony Todd! Very Happy

Third mission now, this game is not bad. Its a typical COD game so dont expect anything mindblowing. If it works it works, and I guess this "works". Graphics are not bad either, especially for an engine this old. The environment textures are so-so, but the faces and skintextures are pretty detailed. The lighting is okay, not like bf3, but bf3 had a certain kind of realism in the lighting, which was beautiful. So it's not as bad as the cod haters say, its just...okay.

Yeah the engine works pretty well but it's a bit dated as easily seen by the background details and certain textures and as said above the lighting model.

Otherwise the solo campaign is pretty fun though I didn't expect anything special compared to the previous CoD games but it's enjoyable.
(Will be interesting to see what they can do if they are indeed using Unreal Engine 4 next, larger levels and other such improvements for example beyond just better visuals albeit that would help too.)

Hahahahahaa Razz I haven't managed to make the game to look as bad as in those pics (maybe it's the FXAA which I disabled?). Maybe it looks better in motion. Anyways the graphics are better than in any previous COD game, though that's not much saying. Sadly that doesn't save the game from having a bland and boring gameplay component as expected.

FXAA is disabled in favor of SMAA and 2x MSAA (I could always set it to 4x Edge-Detect or even SSAA without too much of a performance problem since it nearly always runs at the 120 FPS cap I set.) and the other settings are set as high as can be so this is how it looks without post-process enhancements like SweetFX or such.
(I have no idea what DX11 is used for here other than possibly some performance enhancements.)

That and the images I take tend to be a bit weird, there's lots of texture stretching on the character models, vegetation detail looks like ass, you can see the very low-poly weapon models and numerous other objects, no real water reflections or detail other than a rough normal map plus there's still a bit of aliasing due to the number of low-detail near 2D objects / sprites in the scene.
(Plus the game relies on Bloom instead of more true HDR adaption so a few parts are overly bright or hazy, SSAO might be used but I haven't checked, shadows aren't very impressive either.)

For being 2d the explosion effects and such are still quite impressive though albeit not very different from the previous Treyarch Call of Duty titles, albeit there can't be much left of Quake 3 in whatever they've done with the IDTech3 engine over all these years. Very Happy
(But it will be nice to finally see something new used.)

I guess it works better on the X-Box where this is probably pushing the console to it's limits in order to maintain true 720p 60fps resolution and framerate.

You're using injector? If yes can you share it? And at last do you disable FXAA in the menu?

I've read that people have had problems with the single-player campaign for some reason, I don't know exactly what causes it since it works here but there was a theory here - http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=80002 - about time zones although I never needed to alter it for the game to work and I use Windows 8 so it's not some Buddha.dll conflict either since that seems fixed now.

As for injector I use the basic SMAA plugin - http://mrhaandi.blogspot.se/p/injectsmaa.html - at ultra quality preset along with normal MSAA, I'm sure that given some more time there will be more expansive methods like just SweetFX or such to really fine tune other post-process effects and further enhance the game but I was never any good with those so I avoid them. Very Happy

EDIT: Can't think of anything that could cause it other than giving some basic advice such as making sure the buddha.dll file isn't blocked (or quarantined.) by the anti-virus software, unsure if it has to be blocked by the firewall but it shouldn't make a difference, also the crack might require Steam to be installed although it shouldn't need to be started.
(Or I think there was a post for another game on these forums detailing the specific registry path that was required by the crack to function.)

(EDIT: Yeah it was something like that - http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2029459#2029459 )

Yes, but it only goes from like 70 to 80, IIRC (played for 20 minutes before bed last night). Might've been lower, but 80 was max.
