A timezone fix is now circulating (non-scene) which fixes the need to change timezone to run the game, it introduces a new .dll file 'gabenswrath' but scans on 2 up to date AV programs show that it contains no known malicious software. I have confirmed this fix as working on 2 machines here.
It doesn't do anything for the Unhandled exception caught error, but I have been able to reproduce that on my system when the single player exe file isn't correctly blocked in the firewall

Installed redist, Blocked through firewall, Changed timzeones, applied timezones fix, turned off AV, Even turned disconnected from the internet. Still the same Error.
Apparently there's nothing known to man that can fix this and it's definitely a shitty crack from shitrow. Blah I'll just wait this out till someone more capable fixes this shit for good. I have faith in the internet.
Shitrow was probably like "DERP BUT WE HAVE TO RELISS DIS FERST HERP" and didn't even test their shit.

First skidrow crack worked fine for me, don't know what they fixed in the proper but that works as well. Haven't played for that long though, is the error popping up later in the campaign?

When I launch the sp I get a black screen and a loading cursor for a second then an Error
"Error during initialization:
Unhandled exception caught"
Nothing worked.

If you haven't tried, you might want to install every version of Visual C++ redist.
So:
2005 redist
2005 x64 redist
2008 redist
2008 x64 redist
2010 redist
2010 x64 redist
(no idea if these are backwards compatible but whatever)
Then install the latest physx (because why not)
Make sure you have the latest .net redist installed
Obviously windows update and vidcard AND audio drivers update
And finally install the directx redist as well

@firemaster: probably a problem with your soundcard (driver), all up2date? try setting your default format to: 24 bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality).
edit: win7? sp1 installed? could fix the problem too

forgot to reinstall steam, now it worked. And...
what an absolute piece of garbage. It doesnt even come close to COD4. Everything feels unnatural, wrong .. bad. It looks crap, plays crap and IS crap. /done with it.

Btw, why is my computer just konks off right after I finish the first level? At first I thought it was a dust issue but even after cleaning the computer, it shuts down. First time I've seen this happen... 
1 and 2 are still amazing.

You should be able to play zombies although only alone. Bots are only a part of the strike missions.

installed and finished yesterday: the story plot is twisted and nice, but the execution and content of levels ingame, are complete madness.
little spoilers ahead, nothing serious about the story.
the berserk machete menendez, the colin mcrae Rally escaping 2 armies while they are DESTROYING EVERYTHING, the "oh shit, lets get out of the carrier on THAT VTOL" and for "that" vtol he meant the one at the very edge of the carrier full of enemy spec-ops around it... and dont let me started on NO ABSOLUTE countermeasures on the presidential VTOL getting shotted by 2 man-pad stingers.

The new fix from unknown guy on another site works for me..I don't have to change the timezone...GabensWrath.dll

So how is the MP in this game? Any interesting compared to Black Ops 1? I have only tried MW3 in the free weekend, which was horrible so I expect something decent from this otherwise I'll completely pass.

I'm having a good time with this in MP plus friends, just as I expected. Game looks decent enough, gives me 130-140 FPS on everything maxed, and still allows friends that have shitty old PCs to join the fun, and that's more important to me.
