Have you guys tried Start8 by Stardock for start menu?
That is what I'm planning to use if I get around to try Win 8.

EMBRACE has a 'full trial' out of the last ver (if you know what I mean Razz), if you don't feel like throwing cash at Stardock right away.
I think it looks cleanest so far, resembles the Win 7 one functionally while visually fitting the Win 8 skin/style better.

Try StartIsBack, it's the real Windows 7 start menu, and you can skin it.

I'm not on Windows 8 and, for now, I have absolutely no intention of using it either -- it does nothing of benefit to me that Windows 7 doesn't already provide -- but! I have to say, if I was using it; StartIsBack is what I'd be using. $3 is a pittance compared to the functionality it offers for people that are using Win8 but miss the classic desktop/StartMenu style.

~edit~

Oops, sorry! Link removed. I saw how detailed the post was and thought it was a sales blurb... turns out it was a crack site with the 1.0 precracked version grinhurt

Aye, it was on Google when searching "StartIsBack vs Start8" You can even delete the registry key every 30 days to have indefinite trial extension Laughing

I have been on Windows 8 for some time (upgraded from 7). With StartIsBack it's functional. But really there is no point if you are uninterested in the new main features of Windows 8. Yes, it is more secure, yes, it is faster, yes, it has a better explorer and task manager - but not really worth it. With StartIsBack, it is good enough for me not to want to go back to 7, and probably if I have to format/reinstall, will remain with Windows 8. I guess that says something. Smile

So anything on aero for win8? Or has anyone tried Rainmeter on win8 yet?
With all this custom shit going on, these are the only things holding me back from going to win8.

No. I saw some skin that put back transparency on borders, but they are not blurred like in 7, so it doesn't look good at all. Arrow

I always moved to new OS when they came out (even vista, i know, shame on me (but it ran flawless here)), but this will have to wait then for now Sad

Not only, but among small company. Aero was very elegant, especially compared to this one now, that looks like Windows 3.11. Gradients from Aero could have been removed without the removal of the blurred transparency. But no, retarded tablets can't run it on some shitty Tegra 3 with blur.

StartIsBack supports it natively. I'm sure there are other solutions as well.

Unfortunately you're also an Apple-duck so your point is sort moot, or your weight in these matters lighter than they should be... Wink

There we go with the trolling. Had you actually tried OS X, you'd see it's a much more serious and elegant operating system than Windows 8 will ever be.

Well, if you look under the hub, there are many improvements comparing to Win 7. With some hacks, tweaks, you can turn this semi-crap into a decent OS. Too bad it doesn't have Aero glass. Sad

Edit: what is correct, under the hub or hood? Sabin? Scratch Head

Yes, I have tried OS X (10.5 was the last one I tried I think), but I fail to see what that has got to do with anything. I don't run Windows 8, I'm sticking with Windows 7. OS X felt like skinned FreeBSD with a ton of apps.. Oh wait....
