I'm planning to replay this game very soon and was wondering if someone could give me his list of mods. There are too many mods really and I have no clue which ones are the best (I can't find any indepth "best of" lists). I don't want any game altering mods.

I second that query. Never finished GTA IV and if i replay it which mods is a must and where to find them?

Shieeeeet, ICenhancer rapes the framerate. I get 45-65 with everything on max, ICenhancer halves that. While it looks good, it's nowhere near any quality to justify that performance hit. The "cream my pants, ultra awesome GFX" settings go as low as single digits. I think I'll stick with realistic driving and xliveless. I'll also check City textures and HD roads.
PS. this game looks awesome already on max. If one game is worth a system upgrade, it's this one.

There are other good ENBs (aka bloom enhancers  ) too like this one http://www.gta4-mods.com/misc/enb-settings-v3-f10743 but all of them somewhat rape the framerate, unless you spend hours to actually disable the useless features and try to improve the performance.
Sadly the game is already unoptimized by default, so there isn't much to do.

Yes when I tried it I was on the 1.0.7.0 version (with the iCEnhancer v2.0 if I recall correctly) and unfortunately it was far from being playable. ~30fps or even less with an overclocked i2500k+570GTX..boo |

You mean the game with ICenhancer or without it? I think it's mainly due to the mod since halving the fps seems too steep for what I can see (or I might be missing the point of the mod). Maybe I expected too much from the mod. It can look awesome like in the many screens on the net, but that makes the game run like a slideshow.

I meant with iCEnhancer, but for me even the default (updated) game runs fairly bad at high settings (not the highest), especially during the day. Nights are smoother since there aren't shadows to process.
I think the point of that mod is only to take screens, like a real time instagram.

I've been grabbing mods from here http://www.gta4-mods.com/
Dont want to change the game much as I havent really even played vanilla version, i have a bunch so far, realistic weapons, realistic sounds, taxi cab missions, real bank accounts, business to buy and manage (farnsworth), assassination missions, real time of day traffic, vehicular injury, real road driving and arrests, etc for breaking road rules.

Just play the game without that icehancer. It looks good on specialy composed pictures but it looks like shit for me during gameplay. Eveyrthing is high contrast and shiny...
Without it, the game is extremely playable. Around 50+ fps. That is 1080p, maxed out with sliders on half ofc.

I can't seem to mod this game correctly.
i5 2500k
680 gtx
8 gb ddr3
Windows 7 64-bit
GTA IV version 1.0.4.0
Icenhancer 2.1 w/ the Icenhancer config tool
Using the Xliveless included w/ Icenhancer
The above works fine. However, when I try to mod in new cars, the cars look fine but the handling properties won't go in and they all flip over at the slightest turn.
I've used SparkIV, and followed the instructions. I've manually replaced the numbers for handling.dat, vehicles.ide, and carcols.dat settings that each individual mod tells me to.
I've also used the GTAIV Mod Car Installer, but the same problems occur.
The only way I've found to make mod cars work is to replace a file called "filelist.pak" with another one I downloaded off the GTA mod site. However, then my Icenhancer gets all fucked up. Everything is too bright, the sky is black, etc.
Why can't I get both Icenhancer and car mods to work? Every video I've seen has both, so there must be something I'm missing.

I've tested it on several cars, and the same issue occurs.
I don't think the Icenhancer is causing the car mod problem, at least not directly. I essentially have two problems:
1. car mods won't work unless I use the filelist.pak tweak
2. Icenhancer won't work w/ filelist.pak tweak

Icenhancer can cause problems on mods that use scripts to add more gameplay variety /shops to buy cars, fireman missions, etc/. I have experienced crashes even with bigger mods like Ultimate Vehicle pack and Ultimate textures 2.0.

Did you try to OC your CPU? My 3570K is at 4.6 and I can get those frames with the sliders on max. Try it I'd say.
I agree that ICenhancer is not worth it. It really looks like shit tbh, I even tried fiddling with it via the ini. For halving the fps, it doesn't give anywhere near the quality I expected.

damn ive got really slow loading times on my pc. Even tried putting the game on the ssd. Didnt make a difference. Loading into the game and between missions is slower than it was with my previous specs. Could it be because Im running it almost maxed out now compared to medium?
