RPS is probably the best game review / game news site, for me. Love reading their posts and i trust their opinions in regard to Hitman.

I don't remember when the last time I read a review was. I only throw a peek or two at the reviewers' final verdicts/scores these days and nothing beyond that. I'm really not interested in how many good or bad reviews a game has gotten. As cliched as it may sound, it's important how much pleasure/displeasure a game has given me (and not somebody else) in the end.

Some things just work though, and some don't. It's like composition in a picture, sure taste matters, but some things are just good or bad. Twilight is a bad movie, JB is a brat. Facts.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

the RPS review pretty sums up this shambles of a Hitman Game.

Review sites give 10 to those game that developers give most money to. Im sure Kotick pays every review site to give a 9.5 or 10 for his COD games. There is no suprise that some really good games get shitty scores. Lets leave it that. We are smarter than that and we can decide ourselves if the game is good or not.
Personally i want to play it already.

GMG shows in $ here, even through I'm from RO (not that I'm mad) so now being 45$ with the -10% default, plus the -35% promo code ( GMG35-FGR37-COY0B ) goes down to 29$ which is 22/23€

They reviewers are not necessarily paid (their editors might be) but they are flown over to some exotic place to stay in an expensive hotel with everything prepaid to review the game there, and been given tons of swag. Basically they are given free holidays.

For example for BO2: http://www.polygon.com/forums/call-of-duty-black-ops-2/2012/11/13/3639874/on-the-call-of-duty-black-ops-2-review-event

Quote:
The event was held at La Costa Resort in southern California. It's a gorgeous resort, home to a PGA-level golf course, god knows how many swimming pools and some nice amenities. As part of Polygon's ethics policy, we don't accept travel or accommodations from game publishers, so the flight out and the cost of the stay was footed by us.

Despite the upscale setting, I spent three straight days indoors, playing Call of Duty. Activision set up Xbox 360 debug consoles in everyone's room, so that we could play through the single-player at our leisure. For multiplayer (adversarial and zombies), two large conference rooms were set up like LAN rooms, with around 30 stations, each running the game and all networked together. Essentially, if I wasn't eating, I was either in my room or in one of those conference rooms.

(Speaking of eating, Activision provided a buffet for all major meals. I took part in it when I felt like discussing the game with other reviewers, but I also paid for a chunk of my meals on my own.)

There have been more notorious review events, certainly. A few years ago, Activision took a bunch of Call of Duty reviewers on a helicopter ride before an event. While there wasn't anything quite on that level this year, there was an awkward, unfortunate moment at the start of the event when we were greeted by hired models in Call of Duty-themed getups upon arrival to the hotel and presented with Black Ops 2-themed bags containing a $280 headset (both of which will be donated to readers). Once that was out of the way, though, it was pretty much just about playing the game enough so that I could write the review.

$300 headset, free meals, free game, free flight, free free free.

Dare write something bad about the game and you won't be traveling again next year.

Here's what happened for MW2: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2009/11/modern-warfare-2-reviews-behind-the-scenes-of-early-access-1/

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."

Man, that reviewer from RPS sounds like he never played the first two hitmans and only started with Blood Money. And still, many of the complaints he makes can be made as well about Blood Money, for instance:

Quote:

Somebody will no doubt prove me wrong almost as soon as the game’s out, but there are a lot of levels I’d struggle to cross without killing guards.

Of course! That's one of the points of the Hitman games!

Quote:

The game doesn’t actively encourage the murder of guards and cops, it’s just that it too often fails to make the alternatives particularly rewarding or entertaining. Apart from the chance of discovery on the larger levels, the punishment for killing innocents is a negative score, which impacts on unnecessary skill boosts.

Just like in any previous Hitman game?

Quote:

At times, 47 even loses his disguise between levels and the weapons he had gathered, even if the context of that shift was stepping out of a building and onto the street.

Again, Hitman 1 and 2 say "Hello".

Seriously, this guy sounds like all he ever played was Blood Money and did it always the vioilent way Razz

This is definitely the title for which I've seen the weirdest reviews ever Very Happy
