From what I saw so far FEAR seems to be a nice game (I didn't finish the demo yet) but the FEAR engine is a huge disappointment for me. It runs very very slow and choppy on my computer - it's almost unplayable. That would be ok if it would look unbelievable good but imo the graphics are not very impressive. Games like Far Cry or Riddick look way better and run smooth even on older hardware like mine. What a crappy engine! It's a shame because previous games with Lithtech engines did not only look good when they came out they also ran good (and basically the FEAR engine is just a new Lithtech engine.)
Why did no one license the Cry Engine or the Starbreeze engine yet?? - Stupid developers/publishers!

Can u give us some informations about ur config ?

This game has very good graphics and it runs dam fine on my shity 6600GT (550/1123 clocks). I but almost everything to maximum (exept some textures to medium because 6600GT has only 128MB of video memory)No AA and 2xAF. 1024x768

This game runs like a dream

This demo has sound bugs but I think they will fix it in the full game. They even tell about the sound problems in the read me file.

Great demo. Probably the most effectfull firefights you'll ever get to see in any game. Debris, blood, Smoke, every single little shootout looks really fantastic!

Played through the demo again, excellent firefights, some nice scares in there too.

There is one fantastic setpiece, which I sort of saw coming, but I just thought "oh shit" when it happend.

The AI is easily the best i've seen in a game, they talk to each other, interact with the environment and generally give you a good workout every time you fight them. I remember one time I threw a grenade into the middle of a group and they all scattered in different directions. One jumped over the side of the railing, another ran behind some crates for cover and the other two dived out of the way. Looked so cool, all in slow motion!

Has eveyone found the particle cannon and nail gun? Cool weapons!

Yep,

Take 512Mo : you'll really need it. I checked the memory used by FEAR
for the demo, it's quiet amazing (Mem Used =~ 880Mo)

i hope im not spoiling anything here... if so... ppl who might not wanna read shouldnt Wink

before the helicopter comes down to put 2 soldiers in your way you have to go through a door to enter the scene... first time i looked through the window of the door and one of the guys said "enemy spotted" or somtn like that... and they threw grenades at the door... so i waited inside for them to come through the door... i waited like 2 minutes and nothing happened... then i moved towards the door to give a look if they are just waiting outside... at that moment one of them threw a grenade and another one came from behind.... from behind!!! first i thought... how stupid... they spawn behind you.... then i checked the way back... and theres a staircase outside and a door leading to the top floor... so this guy saw me and went all the way up the stairs and through the door and down again to surprise me from behind... now this is some great ai....

Yep it is fantastic.

Like when one of them kicked over a shelf, then the other yelled "cover me!" while he slid under it, and the other guy starts firing at me.

the ai is very, very impressive.

gamespot said that they when they played the demo..there were many "holy shit" moments..and i completely agree.
there are some scary parts..and how awesome are the graphics? i have it on medium and looks beautiful (with fsaa of course) and it runs nicely.

does this look to be a good purchase? for the multiplayer and all? i'm pretty addicted to bf2 and it looks that way for months to come..from what i've read its just straight up deathmatch for f.e.a.r. in multiplayer ..

anyway, a nice change from the game that never ceases to piss me off--bf2

You still won't be able to run it on 1600x1200 with soft shadows on. Shame. Crying or Very sad

Bad ass game. But like others have said I dont think the engine is optimized very well.

My Specs...

AMD 3000+
1gig Ram
800xl 256meg

Running with everything max, but Medium sound, and Medium Textures. Soft shadows are on, but shadow details are at Medium. With these settings I get an FPS around 19-40.

When I had Shadow details on High along with soft shadows and High texture details I had simalar FPS resuslts but I had HORRIBLE slowdowns when entering a new area. After the big hiccup everything ran pretty smooth.

I think the times are gone when "1gig is more than any game needs" are over

EDIT: For me I need to have soft shadows on. I'd rather sacrifce some other details. I cant stand to look at those blocky shadows, kills the immersion for me Very Happy

EDIT2: Some pics Cool

I havent downloaded the demo because of my crappy rig, so I decided not to bother.
But I saw the clip of the whole demo from Gametrailers.com.
Game looks fantastic! Easily beats D3,HL2 and FC. I honestly thought that the opening scene was pre-rendered (It isnt though, right?).
There were certainly some pretty scary moments, but I guess because I wasnt actually playing, it didnt have the same effect.
Blood splatters - best I've seen yet!

BTW, SoulSurfer, good to know that it runs good on your muchine. I'm going to have almost the same specs as you in about 2 weeks Very Happy

Eh, I think I got the greatest bug of all time..
When I start the first mission, I just walk from the car, and all I can see is a wall, but!
When I turn left or right, I can just see buildings floating in the background, and nothing to step on..
So when I'm moving to the left or right from the first wall, I just fall down and die.
And I got no sound, either..

To explain it with screenshots:
The very first thing you see when you're starting the game for real
Now I've just turned 180
I've just walked 10 meters to see this wall
This is what I see to the right
This is what I see to the left (Be aware if I step out where you can see it's "nothing", I'll fall down and die.
Now I've turned around to look back at the car (I actually look through a wall there, cause I ain't supposed to -see- the car from that angle..)

Specs:
AMD64 3500
2x1024 CORSAIR DDR3200 400mhz
Radeon X850XT
Hercules GameFortrissmo 7.1 surround soundcard

Newest Omega-drivers..
Wtf!?

Have the same problem... stuck behind the car, and buggy graphics.
Tried to remove the install and download it again and install, same problem.
And I have a completely different card, TI4600, 128MB
Any ideas?

Yeah I think your right.. The system I have it running on right now (mine) is:

3.2Ghz P4
2Gb 400 DDR1
X800pro 256DDR

and I can run it on all maximum|1600x1200 with a bit of slow down, but a fair amount when Im in a fight, so much so thats it not that fun to play. Cranking it down to 1280x1024 with shadows off its wonderful.

The system Ill test on monday will be:

3.7 Dualcore Extreme edition Pentium D
4gb 566 DDR2
X850 PE 256DDR

Something tells me we still wont see much improvement, the bottleneck is in the video ram|gpu, this game needs 512 or SLI or Cross fire. We dont have any SLI systems due to mainly using ATI cards, hopefully we'll get some cross fires soon.. Sad! The game still owns though lol

I've tried in SLI mode with 2 geforce 7800 gtx with this config :

Athlin 64 3800+ Venice
2Gb 400 DDR1
2xgeforce 7800gtx (gigabyte)

in the AFR2 SLI mode (alternate frame rendering 2) with the
self-made sli profile and it rocks between 60-100fps with all
gfx options set except soft shadows and fsaa set to 2x instead of
4x
