You know what I say about that? GOOD! Bring 'em on! This is one of my favourite subgenres, along with cyberpunk, so the more people hop on the bandwagon and revitalise this subgenre; the better! Smile

It's just a shame Frontier/Braben didn't put even a tenth of the effort into their crowdfunding idea for Elite, as Cloud Imperium/Christ Roberts' put into theirs. Perhaps if he had, Elite 4 would have raised more than £500k in the few weeks it's been running Sad

Can't they take a few months refining the concept of the game and start a new idea with better presentations?

Sure, there's nothing stopping them from doing that... though why the didn't spend the time BEFOREHAND and do it right the first time, well that I just don't know.

I hope the game is successful, because if it fails to sell, like many many other niche market games (sadly that is what space operas are relegated to these days), it won´t bode well for any future projects.

Maybe he was jumping on the bandwagon after seeing how well Christ Roberts was doing on kickstarter. It's a very big mistake if that's the case, and i think it's too late now, there just isn't enough solid proof for people to invest money into the project. I don't think there will be a second chance for Elite after this. But i so hope i'm wrong and even if he achieves a third of what Christ Roberts has done he can still pull this off.

I also think they need to get boxed copies out into the world as well, it's all well and good being indie and online ... but the simple fact is, there are still a vast number of gamers that don't live online and still buy their titles from bricks and mortar stores. Getting onto some shelves will increase exposure. Hell, you can buy Minecraft in WALMART Very Happy

and still not enough to fund alone the whole game...

Just to clarify that headline – even with $6 million in the bank, Star Citizen doesn’t really have all of the money. It doesn’t even have all of the money it needs but Roberts and chums are confident that they can now secure the remaining investment from other sources.

6.2m from 85+ thousand backers should be proof of concept for any potential investor i would think.

This was known from the start, they needed to raise $2-4m and the investors would put in the final $10m. Now, with $6m raised, that's only $6-8m needed from the investors Smile

Have been projects that I found highly interesting yet they couldn't snag cash from me. This one is the first to take some from me. Just liked the Idea, presentation and people behind it.

Let's hope the success brings more preperation to future crowdfunding projects. (looks at half baked attempt of Elite )

Damn right Razz. I can count at least 6-7 projects that make me go in awe as soon as I recall them, like a tsunami of positive nostalgia.
