Well i'm in sequence 6 and things have started to look up a bit. I still don't like the setting, but at least i'm getting some freedom (finally). I really don't know who's idea it was to use almost half the game as a goddamn tutorial. For things we actually know from previous games!

So far I find the vistas on the tops of tall buildings are less beautiful than AC1.

Are you sure the "DX10" trick works? I don't have the game, but what if you write eg "DX03"? If it still works, then you are not really forcing it to run in DX10, you are just confusing the engine and it disables a ton of crap.

I´m using the Assassins Creed III RePack-RG Mechanics version with the Theta crack, it works fine but i´m wondering if it includes the update or not, performance is pretty dismal.

Im using the Theta release and it works pretty good. Had 60+ FPS @ the beginning.. But as soon as I arrived in boston frames dropped to/under ~30. My guess: it comes from the smoke you see everywhere..Or just bad port/engine..

so the 0 day patch is performance related?i've been searching the internet and it seems that it's only bug related and some crashes,pls some1 correct me if i'm wrong

Ok, I tried that DX10 trick and nothing changed for me. No graphical difference or any frame rate increase. No popping, either.

1) Did you write protect the file? Try that.
2) Also after testing with DX10, could you please do me a favor and type DX03 instead of 10 and report back? Does it work? Does it crash? How does it look?

I can't right now. I have to use VPN to get it launched, I'll till tomorrow before playing anymore.

so ya, boston had my dipping into the low 30's.
I have ambient occlusion forced in nvidia inspector though, I suspect that might be droppnig some of my FPS as well...
Overall though, love the game so far. Someone earlier posted that this is as close to getting RDR on the PC as we can get, I agree, and I'll take it, I'll take it all night long.

· Normal: console-like shadow map resolution and filtering
· High: 2x shadow map resolution
· Very high:
o 2x shadow map resolution
o new Hexagonal filter (as well as cross-cascade blending)
o Improved Ambient Occlusion algorithm |
So basically avoid Very High AA as it's 4x MSAA (on everything but Kepler GPUs where it's TXAA), and also try shadow quality at high because Very High is NOT cheap.
Textures should be set to High if you have the VRAM, they should look significantly better than on consoles. 
edit and environmental quality should affect FPS significantly as well, so I wouldn't set it higher than High.

Those settings makes so little difference in performance. Mainly, game suffers from poor CPU usage. I mean my CPU usage is maxed all the time but there's something odd about this. There is no more NPCs then previous AC games, yet, this game is more dependent on CPU.
And, the engine is nothing new. Good old AC engine, Anvil Next is just a marketing lie.
(My Athlon II x3 opens up to an x4 on 32bit operating systems, I'll just load it on a different drive and give that forth core a try.)

I'm thinking about dling this, even though I'm not a huge fan of AC (only played AC2). How are the RPG elements compared to AC2, are there more or less of them?
I'm also thinking about playing some of the other AC games between AC2 and AC3... If I play this, will it spoil too much (storywise) about the previous games?
